What tags did you use to 'find' the item above you?

This is all about TAGS, TAGS, TAGS!

One exercise Michelle and Danielle at Etsy Success Symposium suggested was to have your friend or a family member look at your item, then, go to the search bar, and type in words that they can think of to "find" your item.

Well, we have our own family and friends right here on our Eco Etsy Team!

So, let's try that.

1) Go to this listing, DON'T LOOK at the TAGS.
2) Then, go to the homepage, and under "Handmade" (on the drop down menu on top), type in words that you would use to find this item.
3) See if you find the item. If you didn't find the item, click on the item that DID show up, and see what the tags are used for that item and write those tags here.
4) If you did find the item, write the words you USED to find it!

Then, add your listing for the next member to do the same.

I just wanted to add Karen that I tried the same search with 'Jersey' in there too, and yours still didn't show up!?
I don't really understand how it works, because sometimes seemingly less relevant items show higher..??

I searched "repurposed upcycled garden art tree" your item did not come up. I tried again with "sculpture" instead of art and still didn't get it. I didn't get many results with those searches so I tried something simpler - "repurposed art sculpture". Still nothing. I would include "garden" or "garden art" in your tags. Especially with garden season beginning.

Chattamama, I thought that the simplest description of this item (although it wouldn't include all of its uses) was a baby towel.
I first tried "baby towel" and didn't see you. Then I tried "baby towel upcycled" and yours was first, although not this (orange) one.

I can't play right now but wanted to give one comment for Melissa and JenniefromChattamamaCrafts
I used "soft baby bath wrap" and only 8 items came up. Interesting So I'd say if you can cover this area (and include 'soft'), you would be on the first page for sure! ("soft baby wrap" got 972 returns and not the orange one among the first 3 pages at least)

Please do Jennifer Jennifer from Snackaby or the next person above me instead of me.

I searched "eco friendly snack bag"
Nothing on the first 5 pages. The first item showing used the tags: Housewares, Kitchen, eco, eco friendly, snack pouch, environmental, lunch box, bag, sandwich bag, wrap, baggie, unpaper, reuse, mini snack bag, blue bangle dot. This shop and one other fairly monopolized the next 5 pages.
I did get a SNACKABY item on the top as one of the four "sponsored" display ads.

Next I tried "reuseable lunch bag". Again, nothing within the first 5 pages. The first item showing had tags: "Bags and Purses, Tote, Lunch, reusable bags, lunch bags, reusable lunch bags, cloth lunch bags, polka dots, dots, geometric pattern, brown, teal, fabric lunch bags, circles"
Again, I got a SNACKABY item on the top as one of the four "sponsored" display ads.

Lastly I tried "reuseable sandwich bag". (5,812 items) (also 5,812 items for reusable sandwich bag) I got your "Crazy Cats" item on page three and oddly enough, that same one was in the "sponsored" ad along the top as well. I got another (white) SNACKABY on page 5.

FInally, I went to dictionary dot com and found that the word meaning 'to reuse' is apparently acceptable spelled both ways!

I have mostly have vintage in my shop so searching handmade won't get much. I have a handmade item but not ideally eco freindly unless you consider it's made of earthenware clay.

Snackaby: I searched reusable lunch bag and you were on the 3rd page. I used reuse lunch bag and you were on 2nd page. When I typed reusable lunch bag again you were on the 1st page in the sponsored items. I types reusable lunch bags and here you go again in the sponsored articles with a different item.

Good exercises Karen. When I started I was missing the tag "wine" for so long. I'm not selling wine, but I need it in my tags. lol

Curlymonkey, I searched organic baby cloths and you were the first one. I searched baby cloths organic and you were third. :) I searched ecofriendly baby cloths and green baby cloths and you weren't on the first page at all. Some of your competition appeared in all searches.

Holly: Its difficult coming from England with a predominantly American audience! We don't really call them pull tabs or pop tops here. They are most often called 'ring pulls' so I feel i need to call them that, as it would be what i would search under if I was looking, and maybe what my British customers would look under..? There are q.a few words that are different UK/US, and many that are spelt differently. I have to adapt my wording, it can be quite frustrating.
Also as Cat mentioned in my shop review, my sort of stuff is not necessarily something people will search specifically for, which makes tagging and titling all the more difficult!

Annabel, Yes, I figured it out that it was just a wording difference. If you are mainly selling in UK, then I wouldn't change it, but if you want US customers too, then I would since we have a different name for it. Yours look made very well , by the way.

Your item came up on the second page of "color and rainbow corks" but didn't appear in the first 4 pages of "wine corks".

There were only 2 pages of "color wine corks" and yours was on the second page.

I tried "market tote" and two of your other bags showed up in the first 4 pages- out of over 14,000 choices!
Then I tried, "t shirt market tote" and two of yours showed up on the first page.
Then I tried, "Upcycled market tote" and one of yours was on the first page.
Then, "Tie dye tote" and there it was on the second page.
I punched in, "t shirt tote" and here are the tags for the number 1 spot....
