Hi all I'm new to the group and new to cloth doll making however I also make dolls by needle felting. I'm wanting to know some tips for doll making with cloth the best way for pattern making and so on. I love cute simplistic dolls with cute details and what not the best. I'm hoping to get into plushie making as well.

Welcome to the group Jess. You are lucky to be a doll maker in Australia, Some of the best in the cloth doll making world that I've had the pleasure of knowing online, before I found Etsy of course were in Australia. I would suggest getting some good carpet/craft thread and find a simple pattern to practice on. Some books you can check out (Libraries usually have tons of them) Anatomy of a Doll, Finishing the Doll and Making Cloth Dolls for the First Time have patterns and instructions, tip and other goodies for dollmakers of all skill levels. Anatomy of a doll breaks down pattern making. If you can draw you can make a doll pattern.

Felt is a good starter fabric as is muslin. Of course you can experiment and we encourage that.

Welcome to the team! First of all, all of your animals are adorable! As for making patterns, my method is to make a paper pattern right on the doll, using the body as the model for size, length, etc. Sometimes the end result is different than what I imagined, but it's always an interesting process :-)
