want to disable direct checkout

I just turned on direct checkout last night. I had two customers use it overnight, but I want to turn it off. It will cost me more to use it than Paypal and I don't like not having the money instantly since all of my work is custom. How do I turn it off and where would my money be from these two sales that were made last night?

I think you can go into your settings to turn it off, but you will still have to wait for the money

Re: want to disable direct checkout

I just figured out how to turn it off and did. I don't mind waiting on the money as long as me turning it off didn't effect that. Even though I turned it off, I will eventually get the money, correct?

Re: want to disable direct checkout

You should still get your money. There would be an uproar if you didn't!

Could you explain why it is costing you more than paypal? For me, for most orders it is saving me a little money. Just curious!

Re: want to disable direct checkout

Hi Mischel,

After you mark the orders as shipped in your account, the money will be deposited to your bank account normally, regardless of whether or not direct checkout is enabled as a payment method.

Re: want to disable direct checkout

I have done the math and there is an financial advantage to DC. Small, but every penny counts in my book. Consider giving it a few days, I think you will be really surprised how many customers choose DC over Paypal. It may be new and have some kinks to workout but my experience is that most of my sales are coming via DC and my customers are happy with it. If they are happy with a very easy, quick checkout, they will be back to Etsy!

Re: want to disable direct checkout

Hi, I'm new. Just got 2 sales from repeat customers and they are both going DC. Looks like that will be preferred. However it is screwing up my shipping costs. Now everything is costing more to ship(pottery) since I can't go through paypal and their discount. Am I missing something I should be doing?

Re: want to disable direct checkout

Jan you can still ship through PayPal. Just go to paypal.com/shipnow. You will have to enter the information manually or c&p from the order. It takes a bit longer, but you still get the discount.

Hope that helps.

Re: want to disable direct checkout

@Vanessa - depending on what your % rate is with paypal based on your volume of sales, it would cost some sellers much more per sale to use DC. I turned mine off for this reason and am hoping that etsy will go to a tiered % system based on sales figures. I would gladly use it if etsy took the same %. Some sellers have 2.5 or 2.2% w/ paypal. It would be a $5 difference for a $1000 order. many pennies :)

Re: want to disable direct checkout

I think it increases your clientele since a lot of people don't want to or know how to use PP, especially when it takes them to another page....then it risks them losing your shop site....I just turned on DC last night and am hoping it creates more customers for my shop.:)

Re: want to disable direct checkout

Pentecost here. I opened my Etsy account 11/09/2006 and do a low-volume business. On April 6, 2012, I accepted the DC option and almost immediately made a sale, the seller using DC. The fee was removed from my payment, but I have not yet received the payment. in my bank account. I have twice given my bank account routing and account numbers to Etsy, and I have marked the payment shipped, as of April 21, one day after the item sold, but the payment has not yet been transferred to my bank account. I emailed Etsy with a question and got the reply stating something like, "We're working on it". How long does it take? My DC page still shows that my bank account info numbers need to be sent.

I have not found a way to un-join the DC option. Using PayPal is way easier. I was a charter member of PayPal after I joined eBay a way long time ago, when no fees at all were taken from my payments. Everything changes. But if Etsy doesn't fix this glitch, I'm outta here, after I get my measly payment, that is.

Good luck to all y'all, too.

Re: want to disable direct checkout

How you removed the Direct Checkout? In my account has disappeared PayPal and now there Direct Checkout. And now there is not a chance to remove Direct Checkout. It can just deactivate but PayPal as a way of receiving the payment does not appear.

Thanks!
