safety/privacy of credit card info

I've become extremely concerned about the safety/privacy of my credit/debit card that's linked to my DC account. I was notified by my bank's fraud department this morning, for the 3rd time in less than 60 days, that my card has been hacked. This most recent card is so new to me that I haven't even used it anywhere except to link it to my Etsy account. It has not been used or linked anywhere else.

I don't want to cancel my DC because I've doubled my sales since getting it, but I'm really worried that the hacker is accessing my info through Etsy. I've emailed Etsy directly but they haven't responded yet. My bank has been great about handling the matter, but all they can tell me is that any time you use your card online, you're opening yourself up to a hacker. So I'm left wondering - is it just my Murphy's Law life & bad luck to have had my card hacked yet again or are other DC users having problems with hackers too?

Re: safety/privacy of credit card info

I have not heard of any issues with this here before. It seems strange to me that a bank would be telling you that your card has been hacked three different times, but is not canceling your card and giving you a new one. If your numbers are out there for some reason, I would think it would only make sense to replace the card. I do not believe Etsy does anything other than verify your card, so if it were canceled and replaced, it should not stop you from taking payments with Etsy or receiving your money.

Re: safety/privacy of credit card info

No, sorry if I misstated. The card has been canceled & replaced 3 times. Three new cards, 3 new passwords. Well, 2 passwords so far because the 3rd card was just canceled yesterday & it takes 10 days to get a new card & password.

The reason I'm doubting Etsy is because the 3rd card wasn't "out there" except for being linked to Etsy. The card was so new to me that I had not made the first purchase with it anywhere, not online or in a B&M store. The only thing I'd done with it was to link it to Etsy.

Re: safety/privacy of credit card info

I have had DC for a year, I was part of the test group. My bank acct has been linked for a year and my cc has been linked since 2008 and I have never had a problem.

Even without DC, etsy requires a cc.

You might have spyware on your computer, seems odd that it would be hacked so quickly. Check to ale sure your computer wasn't hacked
