direct checkout with credit card & paypal as a "guest"

are customers able to purchase an item from Etsy without becoming a member first?
if not, I feel we are missing sales....I know when i shop online, I like the option of checking out as a "guest" instead of filling out all of the account set up steps.
this is something that should be discussed and should be an option for customers.

There is no guest checkout. I wish there was.

I wish this was a possibility too! And it seems like having DC would make this more feasible, if Etsy's concern is that buyers would "buy" items, then fail to follow thru to PayPal for payment.

If someone who's not registered on Etsy puts something in their cart (can they even do that w/o being registered?) and proceeds to checkout, if they choose DC, then let 'em through ... and if they choose PP, then have them register? Just an idea ... but I don't really know what Etsy's reason is for insisting that shoppers have an account.

Great thought! I didn't realize shoppers had to be registered to purchase from Etsy Shops. I would imagine this has been brought up before by Etsy crew at some point....but hopefully this thread gets them thinking again.

Perhaps it has something to do with etsy being able to check their credit card information and address, making sure it is all legitimate? I don't know because I can use a cc anywhere and once it is swiped, that will tell the seller if it is good or not. It would be good to get a response from etsy on this question. I can't help but think that in the near future, we will have this.
