Re: Refunds

Hi Todd! To refund a buyer's credit card payment, just click Your Shop > Sold Orders. Once you click to view the receipt, you can select Manage Order > Issue a refund. You can issue either a partial or full refund.

Thanks to PinchtheMuse for sharing the link for more information on refunding direct checkout orders.

Re: Refunds

The only problem is that if the money is not in your direct checkout account, you need to refund them with the credit card you have on file. I would prefer to refund from a balance in my direct checkout account if we were able to keep one, rather than having to transfer weekly. Second choice would to be able to refund from the checking account my money was transfered to. Would rather avoid getting another thing to have to keep track of.

Re: Refunds

Heather and all:

I have just done my first refund on an item purchased through DC. It was simple and easy. However, I would like to add to the comments, that I would much prefer that the monies be refunded through Etsy or my bank account rather than through my CC on file. It is one more bookkeeping ledger I don't want to add to the pile ;-)

Hoping Etsy will tweak this in the future, as we walk through these issues together!

Re: Refunds

Hi Becky,

Great suggestion! Etsy will only charge your credit card on file if there's an insufficient balance in your Shop Payment Account to fully cover the refund.

Although we don't offer the ability to hold funds in your SPA, it's certainly something the team would like to take a closer look at in the future!

Re: Refunds

What I like most about DC is how simple it is. PayPal exists already.

As a user...if Etsy DC plans on becoming PayPal I would want to see Etsy also offer built in ways to accept our own CC processor.

I don't like the idea of DC/shop payment account morphing into PayPal.

Some examples....holds like PayPal. Being required to pay your Etsy Bill out of the shop payment account. Being required to make Etsy purchases out of your shop payment account instead of being able to choose. ALL of that has good odds of going through if people want Etsy to be their bank.

I don't hate PayPal but there are times I really don't like it because all of the above things make it clunky and awkward.

I have DC because I find it to be a great alternative to PayPal. It does what it says and does it just fine. Process credit cards. If it becomes PayPal there is no point in using it unless they lower the processing rates.

Re: Refunds

If someone wants to cancel their order that they paid with Direct checkout and you haven't shipped the item yet....how do you refund them?

Thank you for your help

Re: Refunds

Cindy,
You refund just like any other DC transaction and the money is taken out of the shop payment account.

The instructions Heather posted above should work for you.

Re: Refunds

I have a question regarding this. I have a buyer who wants to return something because she misread the listing . She may certainly return it but as per my policies will be getting just the price of the item refunded and not her original shipping too as the error was hers.

Reading that article it sounds as though I can still cancel the order and it will come off my sold orders and I will get all my fees back just like with paypal.... is this correct?
