People buy more

When they can use their credit cards. At least that is what is happening in my store. I love it.

Re: People buy more

I haven't either.
I do still like the option to be available for customers, at least for now.

Re: People buy more

My first two DC's haven't been favorable.

The worst being a long time customer who always used PP using DC the day I turned it on....because she wasn't aware that she had a choice.

not really happy thus far.

Re: People buy more

I was hoping that would turn out to be the case, but so far I'm seeing the opposite. Most of my orders are for multiple items, but 9 of my 14 DC sales so far have been for only 1 item. And the largest was only 4 items.

11 of the 14 were first time buyers (from me, I mean) so that may have something to do with it- repeat orders are usually the larger ones.

But I've only had DC active for about a week, and this is a slow time for me in general- so I'm hesitant to draw any real conclusions from the limited data.

Re: People buy more

Ive seen a different more sales with DC. I think sales are slow because Esty keeps confusing the customers with all the changes, it's daily. They need to stop for a while and leave the site alone. It's slowing sales down in many shops, sellers are getting upset the more I read. They need to quit turning buyers away make buying a fun experience not a headache. DC has helped because a buyer can stay on Etsy and not be redirected to Paypal. If a buyer not computer savy it's so much easier to buy direct from Etsy, I've been told by customers making a purchase.

Re: People buy more

I signed up awhile back and then quit it after having too many issues with software and printing labels, but I'm back on now since the bugs have been worked out.
Both times starting up DC I saw an instant increase in sales and many people used DC for paying. I don't know if they would have been there as customers had I only had Paypa,l and I wish there was a way to tell. But so far I've had no issues with software and I believe that people will buy more using a credit card since it's easier for them then Paypal. They don't need to be redirected to Paypal and they don't need to worry about having a balance in that account to pay for the item.

Re: People buy more

I think DC is going to have the biggest impact during the Christmas season.

People tend to use the plastic at that time of year. Those that aren't familiar with PayPal or don't want PayPal---they will still be able to shop on Etsy with the credit card.

@Kathy....unfortunately with the testing....I don't think they are even planning to slow down that stuff until.....mid-November. Amazing, isn't it? The head of testing posted that in an ideas thread a few days back. Mid-November. I thought I mis read, but no.

I'm with you on the buyers...but one thing I've noticed as a seller....it slows down prepping my stores here for the holidays.

Right now there are shipping and indexing bugs. I normally just list and move on with things...as it should be this time of year. But with the bugs and testing and then the buggy tests-- I find myself having to double check with listings. Did they get hit with the shipping problems going on? Did they get indexed?

I watched the Geekery category loop through the same listings for an hour last night. I don't really care it wasn't updating right, aside from it looked like a server problem and if that isn't right what else is bugging? Less time to create and list, less for sale, less sales.

It's starting to creep into my head that just because it appears my shops haven't been hit with these bugs, how do I really know? How many lost sales to people that couldn't buy? My goal for this shop by the end of October is to double my listings and with these kind of things going on I am having to re think if that is a good idea or not.

Re: People buy more

It seems that DC will be great but I always use my credit card on Paypal when I purchase unless of course there is money in PP and then they won't let you use the card. DC seems to be a more direct route of using the CC

Re: People buy more

I have heard that DC increases sales, but I have not seen solid numbers on that. I think that some customers simply prefer to pay the way in which they are accustomed, and when there is a change, they sometimes have some difficulty adjusting. That's a big consideration when it comes to deciding what to use in your shop.

Re: People buy more

Most of my DC orders have been from brand new Etsy members, which I think is Great!

Some of my repeat customers are using it too, which is fine by me with the fees being waved this month!

Re: People buy more

Shoppers have ALWAYS been able to pay with a credit card on Etsy. But until DC came along, they had to go thru PayPal or deal direct with the seller if they had a merchant account or Square, etc.

Hard to believe Etsy is going to keep messing with things up till mid-November! Judging by the search terms showing up in my stats, people are ALREADY shopping for Dec. 25th!

Re: People buy more

I haven't seen this. And more importantly, I have no way to track this data since we don't have exit polls for our shop.

OP, how are you coming to this conclusion? Did you offer paypal before or is this your first time accepting CC?

Before DC, I used paypal. People are still buying the same pattern for each option. I don't see any difference between the two other than DC is used more than PP.

Eta: I should add that doing craft fairs, I have noticed people will spend more when I accept cc. I cannot say the same for Etsy since before DC, people could still use their CC with paypal. I'm curious how you came to this assumption.

Re: People buy more

I had always used PP. Before DC customers would purchase one item. With DC they buy 2 or 3 items. My items are expensive for what they are, not sky high though. But, I've had a multiple sale for $150. another for $61 and some scattered single sales. I also sell hat patterns in my other shop and since going DC in that shop, I've only had one go through PP. Oh, and I have always used the credit card option with PP, no one ever used it.

I should also add that most of my customers have been 1st timers on Etsy.

Re: People buy more

I got my first DC sale yesterday and it was for multiple items. Would that have happened otherwise.....I don't know. I'm thinking not. Too bad my account is still "frozen" as I just signed up a few days ago. Everything went smoothly with printing labels though. I was a little concerned about that. So far, so good.

Re: People buy more

Seems that last year Etsy was fiddling with news stuff as well, and last year was my busiest holiday sales.
