Increase in sales

Hi I am new to this team and just wondered if sellers using direct checkout are seeing an increase in their sales, and how do you advertise that you accept direct checkou?

Re: Increase in sales

I am not sure I have really seen an increase in sales as a whole, but I liked it enough to shut off paypal and use direct checkout exclusively. I did not see any downturn in sales since doing this either.

It feels good to be away from paypal and dealing exclusively here with Etsy. I think I am in the minority, thinking it is better than paypal and we are better protected with Etsy seller protection.

In three words: We Love It !

Re: Increase in sales

My shop has just started picking up again. I have been very slow. I don't know if its improved my sales. No way to know that, but I do know my customers are almost all exclusively using dc at checkout.

Re: Increase in sales

Paypal works well for those that use it, however now that I do not use it, I find myself looking and buying from sellers that take DC. It is so much nicer and easier to change credit cards with each purchase as well as your ship to address.

As a seller, you just ship to the address stated in the order, and do not have to be concerned with whether it matches the paypal address. I have never had a dispute on Etsy, but when we sold across the street at the big auction site, we had a few. You were always guilty until you could prove otherwise. They froze the money in question at the very least, and sometimes more, and made it way too easy for a buyer to file a complaint and put a seller in a bad situation. It was like hostage negotiation at that point. Paypal had the money and knew you would do what they demanded in order to get it back.

Re: Increase in sales

I had the best month ever in October, and then went into a slow time for a bit, which seams to be picking up again now that the election is behind us. Whether America made the right choice or not, I think there is comfort in knowing there will not be drastic change any time soon. Change helps many and hurts others, so it is always an uncertain feeling.

Re: Increase in sales

I use the words "direct checkout" as one of my tags. Not sure if that helps but it is the only way I know of to tell shoppers I take it. Unless they are searching for gift card? Sellers who take gift cards have to have direct checkout. You don't need to have that in your tags though. Etsy tells them who takes gift cards.

Re: Increase in sales

I have DC and my sales have exlopded (not sure if that is a contributing facor or not). About over half of my sales come from DC but I still use paypal as well. I do not regret in the LEAST signing up for DC.

Re: Increase in sales

I have not seen any increase in sales since I turned on DC. Half of my customers still use Paypal. I like having both because I use Paypal as my shipping fund to buy my labels. So far I do like DC though.

Re: Increase in sales

Can you use DC for International Sales? Might want to check that out before dropping Paypal.

Re: Increase in sales

I do about 20% of our business internationally and Direct Checkout works just fine.

Re: Increase in sales

I have not noticed an increase in sales due to Direct Checkout. One thing I do notice is many of my customers still don't use Direct Checkout. Personally I rather like to use it. I consistently search for sellers that except it. Rarely do my customers use it. I think they just might be unfamiliar with it.

Re: Increase in sales

A sellers shop cannot take direct checkout if they are international, it is for US based sellers.

An international buyer can go through direct checkout though to make a purchase and you can ship first class (or any other class) international by using direct checkout to print your labels.

Do I have that right?

Re: Increase in sales

Many sellers say their sales have risen dramatically when they started accepting DC. I've just had 2 DC payments ... out of about a dozen sales ... since I started accepting DC in late August.

Re: Increase in sales

I signed for DC 2 days ago after dealing with a customer who does not have a Paypal and did not want to send a money order.
I hope to get more sales:)

Re: Increase in sales

Greetings,

First, thanks for having a topic that is so relative to the success of our shops as well as facilitating shopping for the customer. Second, I have to agree with Angie from SandalsandDesires, I too have not seen an increase of customers using DC. The last three sales have been via Paypal. I will offer both to my customers, whatever is best for them. Thanks for having this format.

Re: Increase in sales

I just started offering DC this past week. In general, my shop sales have increased this past fall (as expected seasonally); however, my last few sales since offering DC have all been paid via DC. Not sure if it's just a coincidence or if folks really do prefer DC vs. Paypal. I appreciate greater options when I'm shopping, so I'd really like to offer my customers the same. Especially since the DC terms for sellers seem to have improved since it was first introduced.

I think a majority of my goods sold over the next few weeks will be purchased for Christmas gifts, so I'm hoping post-holiday shoppers will swing by my shop, since now with DC I can accept gift cards as well (also given as gifts).

Re: Increase in sales

I've seen no jump in sales since adding DC. they seem about the same, however, most of my customers are etsy shop owners, so paypal was not much of an issue, they have accounts and are comfortable with using it.
