Importing direct checkout orders into PayPal

Hi everyone, one of our existing direct checkout users provided this helpful tip for uploading direct checkout orders into PayPal's tools. We're already working on a CSV file for bookkeeping purposes, but in the meantime here are the instructions:

1. Shop Settings/Options/Download Data. Download a csv file of your orders.
2. Open the CSV file. Remove any orders that are not "direct checkout" orders. Leave the header field intact.
3. Edit the Buyer column to be the shipping First Name. Edit the Ship Name field to be the last name.
4. Edit the Ship Country column to be US instead of United States.
5. Open the Paypal Multi Order shipping window.
6. File/Import
7. Browse for your CSV file, click import.
8. Drag the corresponding columns into their correct places. Use the Buyer field for First Name and Ship Name field for Last Name.
9. Save your import template for use next time.
10. Finish import.

Now it is not accepting my street address. Oh hate this direct checkout.

after you change United States to US how do you save the file? I can't save it as a .csv and get it to work in paypal.

If you only have 1 or even two orders to process a shipping label for, just log into Paypal and then in the browser url type: http://paypal.com/shipnow.

You'll get a blank form to just type in the address and proceed as normal for a shipping label.

When you say you can't save it, can you provide more details? What is the error message?

OK, so I have tried this several times. Everything seems to be in order but I get an error each time. the error reads:

"The MultiOrder Shipping tool was unable to import the file you attempted to upload due to invalid or unreadable required Street Address 1 data in row=2 column=10. Please check your file and try again."

Column 10 is the street address 1 column. I know Pay Pal is picky and sometimes rejects the way an address is written. I deleted that order and tried again. This time it said the same thing about row 1 which is the title of each column. I feel so ignorant.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm only getting a couple orders a week so it's simpler to do it manually but this is good to know as I'm optimistic that things will pick up:) Thanks.
