Goodbye Paypal ??

Since I began accepting direct checkout none of my sales have gone through paypal. Everyone seems to be using the new option. Is this the case for you?

Re: Goodbye Paypal ??

Yes, I've had the same thing happen to me, too. It's much easier to use DC if you don't have a Paypal account. Setting one up can be a deterrent for some people to even make a purchase. So I'm thinking I'm getting sales that maybe I wouldn't have gotten before DC. Maybe. =D

Re: Goodbye Paypal ??

Sandy unless they are return customers I would see that as a good thing.

With some of your higher priced items people may be more inclined to buy on 'credit even if they don't have the money in the bank. I think that is going to benefit my shop too.

I hate to encourage bad credit habits but tis the way of the world.

Re: Goodbye Paypal ??

50 50 most of the time. And now I'm leaning toward DC with seller protection.

Re: Goodbye Paypal ??

Loopy, it is a good thing. I am also noticing that people are buying more than one item. Infact, I had a Canadian customer buy 6 straps!

Re: Goodbye Paypal ??

Since signing up for DC more than a month ago, I've had 3 sales, all of which went thru PayPal.

Re: Goodbye Paypal ??

Mine has been direct checkout too but it's the default. If PayPal were the default may be the other way around. I would prefer my sales were PayPal.

Re: Goodbye Paypal ??

I agree with Lauren I think the default has more people paying that way, 98% of my sales have been through DC since I signed up for it, at first it was closer to 70% but as time goes on less and less are using Paypal. I even had someone send me a message asking if I accepted Paypal even though you can see it as a payment option when you add it to your cart *shrugs* I don't know maybe people like to buy more on credit, or maybe they really don't understand Etsy.

Re: Goodbye Paypal ??

I have a pretty even split between DC & PP. I'll continue to offer both.

Re: Goodbye Paypal ??

Don't be too quick to pull the trigger on Paypal Sandy! My sales have been an even 50/50 DC & PP, and it appears that most people are saying the same. I look at it this way - the more options you give a customer to pay, the more potential sales!

Re: Goodbye Paypal ??

After 4 months of DC, about 30% of my sales are paid that way. The rest are paypal.

Re: Goodbye Paypal ??

We may not choose to get rid of paypal, but once Etsy has all the bugs worked out, and has figured out the international end, why would they not discontinue paypal as an option. If it were my business, I would want to cut paypal out of the scenario, and make the profit myself.....Just Sayin....

Re: Goodbye Paypal ??

When I first began accepting DC, it was a 50/50 split. Now it's definitely in favor of DC. I'd say 3/4 of my sales are DC now.

Return customers use both payment types, so I don't buy the "it's the default so they use it" reasoning. I think the customers know it's an option and they are choosing to NOT use Paypal.
