Getting seen

The hardest thing that I can see on etsy is getting exposure. How can people find you?

Re: Getting seen

I keep asking that same question seems like Etsy keeps changing things that keeps making it harder. You just need to keep adding people to your following do treasuries favor items join teams that help to promote each other. It is really hard to find a team that is willing to work to help each other. I have been through several teams try the smaller teams, I am on a team called kisteam and it is limited to 50 it makes it easier to help each other. I added you to my favorites. I hope this has helped you. Good luck

Re: Getting seen

I know I haven't been on Etsy long but I hope I can help a little. Work on tags and relevancy. I have redone my tags twice but I am getting found in searches. Like Joyce said, joining teams help, adding people to your following, treasuries help to get you noticed. Also, I twitter a lot about my items. I also started a blog and have a newsletter. I haven't started a FaceBook page yet, but I have heard from others that it helps.
I wish you the best of luck!

Re: Getting seen

I favored your shop and tweeted on my twitter site. Networking seems to help. I would work on a Facebook page.

Re: Getting seen

Hi Beryl,

You should add an avatar and banner to your shop. It helps people to identify with you. And social media is an easy way to gain followers. You have to work at it, but hard work pays off. Wishing you all the best with your shop!

Re: Getting seen

Networking helps me get seen too. I'm part of a networking group on Facebook and on each day of the week we Tweet, Google+, Pin, Facebook Like, and share each others post on different days. It's a good way to get your items seen to all kinds of people every day.

Re: Getting seen

We do all of the above and crafts shows and we will do our first fair this year.
Make sure you have a lot of business cards. I give them out every chance I get.

We have an Etsy board on pinerest where we post and allow others to post.
Here is the link: http://pinterest.com/frameyourstory/2013-etsy-listings-now-and-treasuries/

Good luck.

Re: Getting seen

Networking! The best way to go is to make a facebook page and add your family and friends, then when that happens- their family and friends will add on as well. If you have pretty things, then more people will be inclined to look, so make sure your pictures are up to par. Pinterest also helps. If you get your stuff repinned by those that have a large following, it will get repinned many, many times :)

Re: Getting seen

These are some great tips!

FrameYourStory -- I started following your Etsy Board on Pinerest. I'm not sure how to post on it. Can you explain how? Thanks!

Re: Getting seen

Hi Beryl,

I love your paintings. I agree with the other people on this thread. Social Media seems like a great way to gain exposure. Have you tried Deviantart? I think that is a great place for artists to get noticed.

I'm going to give Facebook Ads and the Etsy Search Ads a try soon. I'm hoping that will be an alright way to gain exposure as well. I'll report back if they work out!

Good luck!

Re: Getting seen

I'm a newbie on here but I have noticed that among the suggestions posted on here, I've directed traffic thru the use of craigslist.com
Let me explain: I post my ad on craigslist and keep the details of the item at a minimum and post a photo and my etsy link at the bottom of the description page rerouting them into my shop.
I have also recently opened a facebook retail pg that does the same as craigslist and I keep it interesting by adding picture quotes.

Good luck!

Re: Getting seen

I have tried a lot of different things, and am always looking at my stats to see what spikes visits, views, and sales. Be creative. Try different combinations of things and try to zero in on people who like your stuff.

My two shops are:

www.woodsedgestudios60.etsy.com

and

www.herosjourneycomics.etsy.com

I also captain two teams:

Great Lakes Creatives

and

Under the Moon

I have to say, at this point my sales don't match the time I have put into Etsy, but it sure has been fun. I think I have done pretty well for just hearing about it just over a year ago and decided to give it a try. But, I definitely can't quit my day job at this point. Dream on!

Here's a few new items from my shop:

Re: Getting seen

I love to do treasures, and promote shops in teams. However, how do you know the shop is active or even visits the to help you out. Is there a simple way to gage shops that want to achieve sales?

Re: Getting seen

For artists, it's definitely their off-Etsy presence which is the key. I've scoped out my two favorites to track down what they're doing. Neither of them participate in Etsy social networking at all. One of them, like me ... uses her real name as her shop name. She has many many group web sites with other artists. And links back to Etsy almost exclusively for her prints. The other has three Etsy shops and also appears on other websites.

Blogging will get more action than anything else. Because Google will pick you up. I began a technical log about 6 months ago and now am nearly 7000 viewers with more and more each day. This for a VERY obscure topic.

The downside is that you have to be a damned good writer to get readers. And merely posting your work without an accompanying bit of "value" for the reader won't get you followers. You might have an anecdote or bit of humor or helpful tip. But a blog has to have more than your items. If you have a "web presence" ... Google will pick up your photo images in your blog.

But a caveat here. I have NO sales. After almost 2 months. My work is known outside Etsy, I have a lof of views and favorites ... but No sales. My only comfort is that a view is necessary before a purchase. Views are essential.

And so is patience. On a bad day, go to a successful seller's shop and click on their sales. Go back to their first days on Etsy ... and you will see the patience and persistance.... and often great changes in their work. It's an eye-opener. And it keeps me going.

Re: Getting seen

I have the same question! I've just started on Etsy last week, so I've been trying to study up on the handbooks, and comments. I've sold various other items on ebay, so I'm not new to struggling to be seen, but I assumed maybe a place that strictly did crafts for my jewelry would be a great idea. I've seen facebook suggested a few times, but I wasn't sure if it was using the promote to facebook option that comes up on my store page, or just starting a facebook page solely for my jewelry. I was worried about maybe looking like a spammer on my personal facebook page which might be a turn off?
I also saw some of the ideas under the promote option. Has anyone tried any of the paid services and gotten anywhere? I thought Pinterest, as someone else mentioned above, looked like a great place. I know when I've pinned a ton of stuff I liked over the last year that was Etsy stuff.
