Direct Checkout Stats

I thought this might be helpful for some folks. These are my stats regarding Paypal vs. Direct Checkout since I began Direct Checkout on March 7th.

March 7th to March 31st:
59% Credit Card
41% Paypal

April 1st to April 30th:
62% Credit Card
38% Paypal

May 1st to May 31st:
61% Credit Card
39% Paypal

As you can see, most folks are preferring to use Direct Checkout than Paypal.

Also, to help with shipping, I don't use Paypal. I use Shipstation and Endicia. Shipstation automatically pulls in the data from me from Etsy. I then print out all my shipping labels and invoices from Shipstation. Shipstation will then mark all my orders shipped and will send my buyers a notification of their order shipping along with their tracking numbers.

Hope this helps!

Re: Direct Checkout Stats

Thanks for sharing! I figured out my percentage along with total sale and number of items sold. Orders with DC are higher and have slightly more items on average than Paypal.

Is there a charge for using Shipstation or Endicia?

Re: Direct Checkout Stats

@mimiyaya, there is a charge for using Shipstation. There is a flat fee that includes the use of Endicia. You can also try Shipstation out for free for 30 days:

Re: Direct Checkout Stats

I am having roughly the same results with my sales. I am also using shipstation and together everyhting is going well. I do believe DC is prefered by many of our customers and do not believe it is because it is the default option. I give my buyers a little more credit for having enough common sense to check the paypal button if that is what they really wanted to use. Hopefully in time more and more buyers will migrate to the DC way of life and we can shut off paypal.

Re: Direct Checkout Stats

I have used the usps site, but for some reason they do not allow you all of their shipping choices. I ship first class, parcel post, as well as priority mail. Of all places you would think they would offer all of their services online, but they do not.

Re: Direct Checkout Stats

How exactly does shipstation work compared to just sending your package via USPS?

Re: Direct Checkout Stats

I've had DC enabled since May 27th. Here are my stats over the first 11 days:

68.42% PayPal
31.58% Direct Checkout

I use PayPal shipnow to ship the DC orders.

Re: Direct Checkout Stats

shipstation is a web based system that allows you to purchase and print your postage from your computer. You can then hand package to your mail carrier, or drop off at the post office. There is also a discounted rate from the retail postal charges as well as free delivery confirmation. Just google: shipstation for more info. I have had for a little over a month now and very pleased with the service, with absolutely no problems.

Re: Direct Checkout Stats

I'd also like to add to my previous stat post that DC customers spent 46.88% more per order than PayPal customers. Interesting.... :)

Re: Direct Checkout Stats

My stats for May are:

70% PayPal
30% DC

For shipping I just copy and past the address in to PayPal's ShipNow.

Re: Direct Checkout Stats

This makes me want to go compare my stats! For DC shipping I use either PayPal or USPS. If I need to ship with USPS Ground I choose PayPal because USPS online does not let you print a ground label online. Weird, but oh well. I am going to go check out ShipStation and see what they are all about!

Re: Direct Checkout Stats

I was such a sceptic the first 10 days of DC, now I'm happy with it and see higher number of buyers using DC over paypal.
There is no way of knowing though whether they would have used paypal if DC wasn't there. My sales have been really strong - but then they were similar with paypal. I want to make the process easy for my buyers.
I print off labels using paypal/shipnow - using funds that are already there.

Re: Direct Checkout Stats

Very, very happy to hear that DC stats rule. I also have noticed that I have about 50% more sales with having DC available for customers.

Here's the bad thing.... (Read this carefully) - I do NOT have a PayPal account. I found some great handmade summer sandals (made in Greece). I want to buy multiple pair.

Seller ONLY accepts PayPal and won't accept a US $$ Order or Check. Now, all of a sudden, I am no longer a customer. A $200. sale was lost.

We may experience some learning pains with DC, but I feel blessed to have been awarded it. Otherwise; don't know how many sales I may have lost (or have been loosing) before it!

Peace,
:)Sofia

Re: Direct Checkout Stats

Most of my orders are through DC now. And, I use ShipStation and love it. I pay $25.00 a month for it and feel it is totally worth every penny. I can print a report every month telling me what I charged for shipping, how much my shipping cost were and whether there was a profit or loss and what it was. There is a new inventory management system that costs $12.00 a month, but you can try it free. When I have time to study it, I am going to try it, too. Anything to make my business easier!
