What do you charge for changes?

Hi everyone. I need some advice on pricing for custom orders. I sell printable invitations, planners, cards and so on. Now and then I get a message from a buyer who would like to make a small change to one of my designs. Change the colour, for example.

What do you charge to make small changes to your designs?

Re: What do you charge for changes?

I don't offer custom orders on Etsy but I've done this kind of work outside of Etsy. I always make it clear from the beginning that the order includes one small change and I define what "small change" means. I also include that any additional changes will cost XX amount.

If you don't have your policies stated, I would probably make an exception for this person since it doesn't sound like a lot of work. You don't want to get a bad rating or loose a customer. Then state a charge for changes for future customers in your polices.

Re: What do you charge for changes?

All I do are custom orders, mostly party invites and other favors. I keep my prices high so that all of my orders include any changes they want that is within my power. This keeps my buyers very happy!

I have my files set up so I can easily change most colors and of course wording, fonts and wording color are always simple to change, so I offer it free of charge!

It's the way I do it, and it works for me. I have a hard time asking for more money after the original transactions, but it might not be a problem for you. I say do what feels right to you. At the end of the day, it's your store and you can pick your policies.

Re: What do you charge for changes?

If it's just a simple color change I personally do not charge extra since its such a simple and easy change. However if they wanted a simple design change I mention to my customer that they will need to pay for my "Custom Order". I draw out a lot of my own designs and images so I look at the time I put into my work. But I agree with Kim, leave a discretion if you may charge extra so your customer isn't turned off.

Re: What do you charge for changes?

Thanks for the feedback, ladies. I get a lot of requests for colour changes and I agree - it's a simple and easy change.

Sometimes they would like to change the language and colour, which I think I need to charge extra for. Will update my policies to reflect this.

Thanks for the help!
