Gimp users?

Hello! I make printables and my gimp photos float off of the thumbnail. I want to fix that by giving my picture a background, butI don't know how. Thanks!

I want to make my photos like these:

Re: Gimp users?

Hi Salma! I make mine in photoshop and put a drop shadow behind the printable item. Have you tried that?

Also, what is Gimp? I haven't heard of/tried that yet.

Hope this helps!

Re: Gimp users?

Thanks! I did that and my photos look great! And gimp is like photoshop, but free. I have a photoshop but prefer gimp to crop and tweak the cards/prints I make in photoshop. :)

Re: Gimp users?

I have a question! Do you guys know the people in the professional pictures that you use to put on your invitations? If not where do you get the pictures? I need some professional pictures of people to use for some of my cards.

Re: Gimp users?

I get some of mine from friends who have children. I am an amateur photographer. I get many from royalty-free websites, though, which sell "stock photos" one of them is morguefile! :)

Also, I looked at your products and you have items up for 3-5 dollars. That is way too inexpensive! I would raise them to at least 8-10 dollars. Mine are 15 dollars. I've seen most people price them at around that much, so that's how I priced mine and I thought about how much time it took for me to make them and things like that! :)

Re: Gimp users?

Thank you! And I figured I would start off really cheap, also my pictures aren't all that great so it doesn't look to presentable, I have adobe illustrator cs6 and after I make an invitation I save it as a jpeg then upload it to etsy, and they always upload blurry:/. Do you know how to put the wood slates in the background behind the invitations?

Re: Gimp users?

I have another question, How do you paste something from the internet into adobe and make the background of it transparent? I have been trying for so long to figure out how to make the background on clip art transparent! thank you!

Re: Gimp users?

Items from the web are only 75DPI. I would not recommend doing this as they will print very poorly. Gimp and Photoshop will also lower your print quality of vector graphics (creating a bitmap raster). Feel free to work your photos here, but ultimately finish your piece in a vector program such as Illustrator or InDesign.

Re: Gimp users?

Nicole, you have cute designs! I agree with Salma, you need to raise your prices. :)
You'll need Photoshop or something similar to knock out a white background on a JPG. Try to download a high-res transparent PNG or an EPS version instead. I also use Photoshop to put in a background behind the invitation for listing on Etsy.
Good luck!

Re: Gimp users?

Thank you Autumn! I will raise my prices once I figure out how to make my pictures more presentable! I am getting a lot of views but no sales, so I must be doing something wrong.

Re: Gimp users?

A lot of views but no sales doesn't mean you're doing something wrong. You are a brand new shop! It takes time and a lot of patience. And remember, we're selling items that there are A LOT to choose from on Etsy, so add a little more time and patience. :) It took me months to get my first sale and even longer to get a pattern of more than one sale per month.
