Are your digital downloads selling?

Hello,

I just joined Etsy and posted several of my pieces on my shop. I've sold some stuff thru POD sites such as Society6 (http://society6.com/rabassa) but I've never sold the digital files -- this is my first go at it.

Can you share your successes and insights?

thanks,
rich

Re: Are your digital downloads selling?

Hi Rich!

Welcome to the team! Thanks for posting your question.

I started doing digital downloads a couple of years ago and it has been quite successful for me.
.
One thing I learned is that there are a lot of customers out there that are seeking commercial use downloads. So that is my main focus in my shop is providing graphic resources for artists who wish to create their own products to sell on Etsy or wherever they choose.

I also try and have tons of downloads to choose from. I like to have at least 350 or more to choose from. The average digital download on Etsy is around $4-$5 dollars.

All of my files are high resolution at 300 dpi.

Being active on the Etsy forum is very important as well. It gets your name out there.

Promoting yourself on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Wanelo, etc. I find it extremely important to use social media to promote your items. It gets your shop out there, people see it thus resulting in lots of sales. You can also promote your items in the main forums under "Promos".

Also having good tags, titles and descriptions as well as good shop policies is important to being successful.

Excellent crisp clear photos in a listing is a must. Blurry photos do not sell.

Providing excellent customer service.

Also joining teams is another good one.

I hope this helps.
Once again welcome!
Marcie

Re: Are your digital downloads selling?

Hi, Rich...When I first started my shop, I sold old school cut-and-paste ACEOs. I was inactive for several years, then reopened my shop selling digital downloads.

I was doing quite well until September, when my shop was among tons of other shops that fell off the face of the earth due to Etsy changes.

When people order from my shop, they usually buy several items at once, but the sales lately are few and far between.

Right now I'm trying to decide whether it's worthwhile to keep adding things here, or concentrate more on my various POD shops.

I was under the impression that we couldn't sell images of recognizable characters, whether or not we had drawn them ourselves, such as your Batgirl and some of the other items you have listed.

I might be wrong on that though, so hopefully somebody else will chime in on that.

Wishing you much success here,
Becky

Re: Are your digital downloads selling?

I'm getting lots of favorites, but only a sale or 2. Good search words seem to really help with getting found.

Re: Are your digital downloads selling?

I know this thread is a bit old now, but I wanted to come back in and say that since my shop tanked back in the early Fall, I've done a lot of reading on the forums and teams, and a LOT of re-working on various things in my shop, and I'm back to getting traffic, favorites, and sales.

How are things going for you now, Rich?

Re: Are your digital downloads selling?

Hi everyone!

Dear Marcie Adams your comments are very helpful, I just opened my shop and I was also wondering how to get yourself promoted through social media network, lets say Facebook, would you open an account under your shop profile and publish every time you do a new listing?

If you do so, once you have your Facebook for your shop, what kind of people would you contact or add?

Thanks for your advice and any advice to improve my shop are VERY welcome!

Have a nice day,
Maria
