Coupon Code Questions

Hi everyone! My shop is less than a week old so I've got a few questions about coupons. PS-had my second sale yesterday, yay!

1. Can a customer use more than one coupon code at checkout?

2. In your experience, are customers pretty honest about using coupons? Do they ever abuse the system and use a code when they shouldn't have? I'm thinking they could have used a code for "buy 3 get free shipping" but only bought 2 items and used the code anyway.

3. If something like #2 happens, what do you do? Cancel the transaction?

4. I have my coupons in my shop announcement and item listings, but I feel like its more of a pain since I'm requesting they convo me (I'm afraid of people abusing the system). Below is what my shop says:

WANT A DISCOUNT? Send me a convo with the name of the book used in the item photo and I'll send you a 15% off coupon code for your entire order! You must name the exact book, not just the series it came from. Most items throughout my store have a book photo. Also, buy any three (or more) items from my shop and get free shipping! Just send me a convo first and I will send you the code.

I'm thinking of changing it to make it less of a hassle. What do you think of the below wording:

WANT A DISCOUNT?
1. Name the book used in the item photo in the "notes to seller" at checkout and use the code BOOK15 for a 15% discount on your order for 1-2 items. You must name the exact book from one of the items you are purchasing, not just the series it came from. Most items throughout my store have a book photo
2. Buy 3 items and get free shipping buy using the code 3SHIPFREE at checkout.
3. Like my Facebook page and get 10% off one item by using the code FACEBOOK10 at checkout. (link the FB page)
**Only ONE option above is applicable per order

Please let me know what you think :)

Re: Coupon Code Questions

I'm pretty sure you can only use one coupon code per transaction. This is pretty typical across many sites.

I find that customers are usually honest. Thankfully I haven't had any major issues but as far as using codes for buy one get one and they aren't supposed to usse that code, I think you have to do what is best practice for your shop. I would probably contact the buyer and ask if they wanted the buy one get one offer and since they only ordered two items, what is the third free item they wanted. Sometimes buyers overlook the leave a message to seller at checkout. You can always cancel an order but check with the buyer first. There may be a way you can come to some sort of cartharsis without that step.
