What point and shoot cameras are good for macro photos?

Anyone have recommendations for a mid-range point and shoot camera that's good for macro photos.

And what should I look for in a good point and shoot in terms of macro? Would only the megapixels matter?

that's a good question. i'll look up to see what i find. most current models are decent. also, the high megapixels make it easy to take a wider shot and then crop, though you wouldn't have the shallow depth of focus.

That's a good point about cropping! If you happened to find any tips I would be grateful. Thanks!

Hi,

I am looking for a good camera as well, not too expensive. In my search, I came across this site. It seems to be full of good information. I hope it helps.

...and, I just found this article. It offers a lot of information regarding DSLR and point and shoot cameras:

Re: What point and shoot cameras are good for macro photos?

I can only comment on the model of camera I have. It is a Sony Cybershot and at 6 mega pixels it is an older one. The newer models have something like 14 megapixels and are well under $200.

The macro is what I love most about this camera. If the light is adequate it can take photos so close that you can see the legs on termites. Of course, you have to hold it still... or better yet, use a tripod.

You can also zoom while in macro if you want to get closer to something that you can't move the camera close to. I've been very happy with it.... but I have the 'wants' real bad for a $2000 DSLR. <Grin>

Thanks MCsHandmadeTreasures.

I did end up getting a new camera, but after hours and hours of searching it just seemed like there wasn't much difference between the cameras in the under 200 range, so ended up going with whatever cheap camera had the highest rating on amazon.

It's a panasonic DMC-FS16. It seems good so far, but then again my previous camera was 5 years old and just had 2 megapixels :)

Spoontaneous - I want a DSLR too! someday ...

Re: What point and shoot cameras are good for macro photos?

I am still out there searching. It is so confusing. I have a Coolpix S570. I cannot adjust the macro - it is automatic. I am looking for a camera that has manual adjustment, as well as auto. With the Coolpix I get maybe one good photo out of 15. Not a good ratio. Please let us know if you liked the panasonic after a while, I have a long list of cameras now. I will add yours and Spoontaneous' Sony Cybershot to my list. I really need to hurry. I have a lot of items that I need to photograph enter, as my shop is almost empty right now. Like both of you, I would like to have a DSLR sometime in the future! =)

Good luck with your new camera!.

Here is a tip just to confuse everyone. ={> On flickr you can search the most popular cameras. It doesn't mean they are the best but it might give some ideas about what models to check out.

I love my Canon PowerShot elph 500HS. It's a touch screen so you tell it where to focus, exactly! :o)

SzetoBaby - that's pretty cool!

artisan - thank for the tip!

mcs - my new camera has a macro setting, but doesn't have a manual focus. I wish it did! I'm not seeing that much difference between the photos from my old 2 megapixels and this camera, except for the resolution, but for etsy photos it doesn't really matter if the resolution if great :/
