Having a hard time with this one

https://www.etsy.com/listing/109467944/large-baby-girl-blanket-and-matching-hat

So above is one of my current listings for a large knit baby blanket and hat set. I'm finding it really hard to properly photograph these items for some reason and I'd love some suggestions. I would love some ideas about styling if you have them but also just good photo taking habits for a piece like this. Most of my others are much smaller and I find them so much easier to photograph.

Thanks,
Rachel

Re: Having a hard time with this one

I get the general idea from those shots (a couple could be exposed a bit brighter...)

Maybe get a shot with the blanket folded up neatly and the hat stacked neatly on top of it? A shot of the entire blanket could be helpful, as well as a shot of it staged in a crib. I don't know much about baby blankets at all but I might like to have the length and width specified.

Hope this helps - good luck with the listing! :o)

Re: Having a hard time with this one

I should hang it over our crib and take a shot. I guess I've always just avoided that shot because we have a little boy with a very boyish room and I thought that would make the picture a little wacky looking since the blanket is so girly. I think I put the measurements somewhere in there - yup "approximately 44 inches square." I'll definitely try to get a few more exposed shots. Thanks!

I did just tweak the lighting for the darker shots.

I am not sure if you use Photoshop or Gimp for editing your photos. If you don't you should. Gimp is free and very similar to Photoshop.

The best way to enhance the lighting, without having to redo the picture all together is just to adjust the levels in either program. It doesn't change the picture much, just enhances it.

Oh Dana thanks for the tip! I don't use photoshop (too expensive for my blood at this point) but I'll check out Gimp since it's free! Right now I'm using a mac and just using the "enhance" tool or whatever it's called in iPhoto.

Re: Having a hard time with this one

I've seen where the blanket is folded in a square and wrapped with a pretty ribbon around it. If you google baby blanket with a matching hat you'll see samples of what I'm talking about. This blanket has been sold but it'll give you an idea of what I'm talking about.
