Although I signed up I could not find my name on the list. So I signed up again. I wonder if the training is going to be with a partner? If yes, how will I know who my partner is?

Re: Etsy School / February 2014

hello,

I was thinking that maybe it's a good idea for all of us to get to know each other a bit better and introduce ourselves here, our partner and what is the progress of the etsy school for each one of us.

Re: Etsy School / February 2014

Let me do the start :-)

I am Eleni or else GALEL and I am making all kind of things with fabric and felt. My partner is Maria from www.allglassandcrafts.etsy.com with her beautiful creations of glass and unique jewellers.

Our meet up is planned for the following week since I was away. I think we'll make a great team and our critiques will benefit our shops :-)

I know that is going to be hard to keep up the time-plan suggested by etsy but we'll definitely manage to do some changes to our shops.

My goals are:
1. refresh avatar & banner
2. re-photograph all items
3. add more information on the Policies section
4. fill the About section
5. check and change if needed the titles, tags, and informations in every listing
6.regular listing uploading
7. learn and work on SEO

Good luck everyone!

Re: Etsy School / February 2014

Hi everyone,

I have been selling mainly in the UK through friends and associates for the last year (I am originally from the UK but now living in Cyprus) and decided it was time to try out the internet for selling too! One of the sites I am using of course is Etsy. Although I have only uploaded a minimum number of items to my Etsy shop at the moment I plan to add much more asap!

My main goals are:

1. Add more items
2. Add more photos to each listing
3. Work on my SEO
4. Amend information to descriptions
5. Promote Etsy shop through other sources (ie Facebook pages/ groups)
6. Look at offering more competitive shipping fees

I have been partnered up with Meropi from https://www.etsy.com/shop/MeropisArtJewelry with her incredible creations, and am really looking forward to working with her !

I am sure this will benefit all of us, great idea from Etsy and thanks to Stella and Eleni for the help with links etc!!

Good luck!!

Hi, I am Elisaveta and I am selling art: painting, ceramics, costume, drawing. www.etsy.com/people/elisavetasivas

I am happy to participate again in mentor's school and I hope to learn more things, because there is always something new to learn and to help others.

My partner is Voula and she is making beautiful jewelry: https://www.etsy.com/people/voulapanayi

My goals:
-to improve tags and titles (it's something I am doing constantly)
-to improve my blog

-to learn more about SEO
-to help others and to communicate

Good luck to everybody!

Re: Etsy School / February 2014

I have a question about the tags, as I working ll the time to improve them. I see in my stats which tags work better for my listings. So I saw I was found for example by tags "horse painting" and also "painting horse" and other examples like this with inverted order of words or for example with singular "oil painting" and plural "oil paintings". Should I include both tags in this case or one is enough? Because I did not have actually the tag "painting horse", so may be it came out of a category "painting" and my tag "horse" and it gives me as a result a phrase "painting horse" in my stats. I hope I explain myself..

Also I was wondering if it's worth including complicated colors names, for example not just "brown", but "pale brown" as in this listing: https://www.etsy.com/listing/177906949/original-oil-painting-motherhood-art?ref=shop_home_active_13

or "eggshell" in this one: https://www.etsy.com/listing/91069530/ceramic-sculpture-ceramic-art-ceramic?ref=listing-shop-header-...

Etsy school recommended last time to use these color names especially for painters, but do they work? Does anybody have some experience with this?

Also was wondering if a single word tag for example for a woman protrait a tag like "woman", "portrait" would be more useful than a phrase tag like "woman portrait", "feminine art" etc?

Re: Etsy School / February 2014

I also have a question about the titles and the beginning of the listing description, because they do appear in search. Should I separate the text with commas or it is better a text without commas? for example in this listing: "Original oil painting, woman, feminine art, minimalist art, figurative art, oil on canvas, BRIDE, modern artwork by Elisaveta Sivas wall art"

Re: Etsy School / February 2014

Hi Elisaveta,

As far as I know is best to have combined words in your tags, like the ones that you have included above. For example is better to have 'oil painting' than two separate tags 'oil' and 'painting'.
For the commas I have no idea. I don't know if anyone else is familiar with this.

The following links may answer a couple of your questions

Re: Etsy School / February 2014

Thanks Eleni,
I will check the links!

I was looking through your mail for this week about the photography. I was wondering, if there is some guide on etsy related to the photography of paintings, because it is really different kind of photographs, it's really not easy to take a good picture of a painting. If somebody knows something, it would be great to learn more!

Thanks!
