Do wash em, dish soap is ok with most stones, the rubbing alcohol might etch some stones and maybe a little harsh.If alcohol is what you need to use use ever-clear.
All stones have a textual feel that differ, most stones are a silicate so they feel similar. Amber feels like plastic, Jet is light and smooth, Sugalite is slippery like its wet etc.
I would cleanse the stone by washing it with warm water (just water) if it feels slippery keep going it till it feels like your fingers stick to it. Put on a window ledge so it receives 20 min of morning sun or the full moon over night would be awesome to charge it up. Hold and set your intentions for use.
