Hello all : )
So far my Etsy experience has been a rollercoaster of learning experiences... but, good nonetheless.
I started out in March of last year. I was in maybe 7 circles, about 2 teams and had about 9 items with pics that was just a Styrofoam head with my tams on them and my guitar featuring my halter tops. I made *1 sale* and that was just to a friend. She helped me out really. Made it show I was trustworthy based on her feedback.
I let it die after a few months of it turning into an input with no output (output being $).
I reopened my doors in November of last year with new designs, new inspiration and even a new name. But even more, a new outlook. I joined teams that were not only helpful, but filled with people I could find inspirational. You'd be amazed at how many established artists seem to only want to help those who are in as many if not more circles than them.(I don't want to ever be like that which is why I'm posting this <3) I took better pictures (most if not all were done with a camera phone). I rebooted my blog, Flickr and FB page and decided to make it more helpful than advertising. If I found a loop hole, I'd share it.
Since my change I have gone from 7 circles and 13 admirers to 300 odd circles and nearly 300 odd admirers. Keep in mind this wasn't always done with at home internet. This took many long bike rides to the library to accomplish...
My best advice to those who need a bit of help, is yes, circles help, teams are marvelous... study others. See not just how thay run their shops and blogs, but get inspired to see the different directions there are and see which style would work for your artistry and personality. This way when you do get a larger audience you will be ready and won't feel so lost.
Also, *Take Good Pictures*. What would look good enough to be in a treasury is good enough to get publicity for the item/your shop. Plus, sometimes people love what that pic makes them feel. Your item is the souvenir at the end of that inspiration.
Read other blogs, FB pages, team chats, etc. Write on them. Share them. Sometimes when the sharing, favouriting is reciprocated, even a wee bit of activity on your page is good. It shows someone else has been here. You're personal.
Plus, another good tip, favourite items that flatter your own work and make sure your favourite shops and items are visible. You'll be added to more circles that way and show up in activity feeds.
And lastly, after all that image work, team work, promotions... be yourself. They may come for your artwork or vintage treasures, but they'll return, because of you ; )
Wishing you all much prosperity and I really hope this helps even a little...
*Lots of light to you*
