Knowing how many views you need to make a sale can really help you to understand your business better and what is required by way of marketing.

For example, if you know that you need 30 views to make 1 sale, this is a high conversion rate and means that you don't need a whole load of traffic to achieve sales. It also means that you clearly have a product people want or need.

If on the other hand, you need 500 views to make 1 sale, this is a low conversion rate. This could mean that there are issues with your shop that need addressing like photography, pricing etc., that you are not selling something people want or need or simply that you have a high end market product.

Knowing this conversion rate can really help you and this is why I am offering to give you this for free. If you want to know what your conversion rate is, just post here and I will let you know in this thread.

Figures will be based on the entire duration your shop has been open.

@Carmen, there are some issues with your keyword placement, ie your shop title, shop announcement etc. There could also be an issue with the fact you are based in Italy. Many Sellers on Etsy will not ship there because of shipping issues so I just wonder if that could be putting some people off. Just a thought.

Your conversion rate is actually not too bad considering your price point and I would expect that. For many artists selling paintings on Etsy it can be 1 to 3000 for example.

Your traffic is also a little low so try and think of other ways to drive traffic. That can take a little time, your shop is still very young.

@Carmen, you can change your shop title as often as you like, it's the shop name you can only change once.

Without doing a full diagnostic, it's hard to say exactly what you need most. There are several issues in the way you have set up your store. A diagnostic would certainly tell you exactly what needs to be done.

The tagging guide could be useful to you since that also encompasses titles and this is also important to get more traffic.

Hi again.
You are right! I just notised that I can change the shop title. In fact, I did. I am now working on a tag list with the google tool.Havent started to insert in my shop yet. I am making a list with tags for the whole shop and will print it out, then start to work on it.

I just purchased your full shop critic as you suggested.
Hoping that it will take me on the right way to success.

Wow, that's quite huge number of views needed!

I wonder, if it's because of my photos or because most of the views (at least 90%) come from small group of people in treasury groups, which I'm part of and who are less likely to buy anything at all.

@Astrida, It could be down to a huge number of things and without doing a critique, it's difficult for me to say exactly. Price point can have a bearing on this conversion rate, ie if your items are not cheap, then you'll need a lot more views before making a sale.

It could also be to do with current trends and whether your items fit. Your shipping rates are reasonable and you have a returns policy which is good. You also have great images. Your descriptions could be better as you really only describe the features of your items and not the benefit of owning them, ie this will match with any outfit or something cheerful to wear every day.

You already mentioned that you're getting views but these are not from your 'target market'. You need to work on attracting genuine customers. You could do this, for example, via Twitter, Facebook or Pinterest but you must follow people not connected with Etsy.

Hi

I am fairly new to the group and have had an Etsy shop since June 3rd. This weekend I made my first sale - a tiny one but a sale nevertheless! That has been after 792 views, so presumably that is my conversion rate 792:1. This is even way more than you mention (500) in your openng thread!

I noticed in the above correspondence you mention a 'critique' - is this something you provide? For a cost? I think I badly need some help, I've tried many things including ads and SEO but it seems there must be something fundamentally wrong.

Please let me know if you can help me.

@Ganev, I normally do critiques, diagnostics and write product descriptions but I will not be doing these now until at least the end of the summer.

Your price point is quite high so this will have a bearing on the number of sales you make. This doesn't mean you are charging too much, just that lower value items sell more.

There are also issues with your shipping rates. I understand your items are heavy but this could be causing you a problem. (I will send you a private message). :-)

Thank you for your informative response.

I take your point about the prices and was thinking along the same lines myself, so have been trying to create some cheaper items too at the moment.

The shipping rates too are expensive both from the UK and Spain, however I must admit that some of them are guestimates, probably erring on the lower side. The one item I have sold, I had undervalued the shipping cost by a third!
