Views to Sales Conversion - Want to know yours?

Knowing how many views you need to make a sale can really help you to understand your business better and what is required by way of marketing.

For example, if you know that you need 30 views to make 1 sale, this is a high conversion rate and means that you don't need a whole load of traffic to achieve sales. It also means that you clearly have a product people want or need.

If on the other hand, you need 500 views to make 1 sale, this is a low conversion rate. This could mean that there are issues with your shop that need addressing like photography, pricing etc., that you are not selling something people want or need or simply that you have a high end market product.

Knowing this conversion rate can really help you and this is why I am offering to give you this for free. If you want to know what your conversion rate is, just post here and I will let you know in this thread.

Figures will be based on the entire duration your shop has been open.

@SandraHandmadeShop 1 to 769 - The problem is that you received a negative review and no positives since. Unfortunately you responded publicly which means that there is no possibility of getting this review changed now. It's always best to resolve the issue first before leaving a response. Your views are low too so do spend more time on promoting. :-)

Weird then. That means in my first 3 years I got only 10,000 views, then 250,000 the next four. I did well my first 3 years, about 75% of where I am now $ wise.

@KarinLorenc, Although you state that there were not Stats on Etsy until 2011, there have always been listings views. The first item you ever sold on Etsy back on 7th April 2008 shows 15 views. If those stats were not available, then how can they be showing? https://www.etsy.com/transaction/8105069?

There were views yes, but if you look at Etsy stats and select "all time" and "views", you'll see nothing before 2011. I thought that meant the total was from 2011 on only. I just added up the numbers for each year (2011-2014) on the graph and I'm getting the total they show there. This does not include 2008-2010 for me.

You say you're getting your stats elsewhere though, and you are seeing about 10,000 more than I see on Etsy, so perhaps your stats are more accurate.

@Karin, If you look at the bottom of your sold items, you'll see the views. Those have always been there.

@Cathy, I know they're there. They just aren't included in the total stats Etsy shows. Dividing the Etsy total by total sales doesn't work for me (since I have 3 years of sales that aren't included in the tally). Perhaps I'm not explaining this well. No worries, newer shops don't have to think about any of that.

`EclairJewelry 1 to 113 - you are not renewing often enough but also there are big issues with your titles. Your punctuation is completely wrong, you're not leaving spaces between it and search engines/Etsy's search cannot read this.

Hello and thank you so much for this opportunity to get a better perspective on shop performance. I am not paying for promotion because it did not seem to be helping but I have added inventory and improved titles for SEO and have begun to diversify my listings by offering necklaces and bracelets in addition to the earrings...could I get an idea how I am doing now by checking my sales ratio?

@Carol, you simply click the 'renew' button on your listings. This will bring them back up to the top of Etsy's relevancy search.

I wonder if you could do mine? I'm disappearing off the etsy radar even though I have 450 items in stock and renew & list daily...I'm doing fine in the real world but online, I don't know what I'm doing wrong but sales ...what sales?

@ NoDittoDesign 1 to 48 - The issue is in the way you have set up the text in your listings. Your keywords are not in the correct places so you will not get good search results despite renewing.
