Tips on Getting the Best out of etsylush.com

Jump to solution
I thought it would be a good idea to post some tips here from time to time as there may be things you didn't know about www.etsylush.com.

Tip1

To avoid having any of your image cut off, upload the correct image ratio for the site. The optimum size is 900x600 landscape orientation.

Tip2

Fill up your page by submitting every day. I go through the site from time to time and give exposure to author pages that are looking good.

You can find your author pages by scrolling down on the front page and clicking the link that says 'my posts'.

Tip 4

Be sure to be very specific when tagging the items you submit. Many people do not add what the item is for example. Put on your buyer's hat.

Our search function will search titles too but do not rely on this alone. Keep your tags short and do not repeat the same words for each tag. It is called 'tag stuffing' and is a big no-no for search engines.

For example:

square mosaic candle holder - this tag should be split into several:

square
mosaic
candle holder (2 words are necessary here as otherwise the meaning changes)

Do not use Etsy specific tags as this is pointless on www.etsylush.com. Those tags are there to help Etsy and/or other sellers find your items. On our website, you should only be concerned with what a potential buyer will search for.

Tip 5

Be sure to check your author pages frequently to ensure that some of your older items submitted and still for sale have not expired. There is now a 2 month expiry date on all submissions. Re-submit them if they are no longer showing and still for sale.

Tip 6

FINE ART AND REPRODUCTION PRINTS
A Fine Art Print is an image created by an artist from a plate, stone, block, ie lithographs, stencils, etchings etc. Prints are numbered and signed in pencil by the artist beneath the image, after the edition is printed.

A Reproduction Print is a copy of an original painting, drawing, etc. The original work is photographed and reproduced by a printing process. Giclee prints are reproduction prints.

Limited Edition runs may apply to both Reproduction Prints and Fine Art Prints.

This is also generic information but is relevant to our site since there is much confusion on this subject and prints are often referred to as 'fine art' when in fact they are reproduction.

Tip 7

When choosing a category, choose the sub-category that best suits your item. It will then also show in the main category.

Sub-categories are slightly indented in the list below the relative main category.

Tip 8

Don't be too creative with your titles. Our search function searches through the titles so consider this when adding your titles. If you add 'In Love' to a photo for instance, not many people would search for that.

Tip 9

If you do not see your item approved on the site after a couple of days, do not re-submit it. It can take up to 1 week for items to appear, particularly now that the site is getting much busier.

It is far better to submit a different item each day as they may not necessarily appear in order.

Tip 10

Do not wait to submit another item even if one of your items already submitted is not yet approved. It can take a while for them to appear and they are not always approved in date order. It is best to have some sitting in the queue.

(Remember only 1 submission per 24 hours though).

Tip 12

Our stats reveal that the 'Featured' http://www.etsylush.com/featured is the MOST VISITED page on the site.

It is therefore important that:

a) You submit items regularly to the site so that they have a chance of being included in a LUSH treasury and therefore appear on the featured page, and

b) You curate LUSH treasuries (items from the website only) so that you have a chance of it appearing on the featured page.

At the risk of sounding like a cave woman, What are author pages and how do I submit them. I know I can find 'my posts' at the bottom of the front page but which page is the front page?

When you click on "my posts" it show you your author page - the collection of all of your items that etsylush.com accepted.
Hope that helps answer one of your questions.

Thanks for Tip 6 EurekaGuides

This is a particular irritation with me...

I’m not at all surprised that there is confusion about the two categories, seeing that Etsy Lush allow reproductions under the label Fine Art while there is a category specifically for reproduction. The category definitions that make sense to me are Printmaking and Reproduction – same as Etsy categories. Reproductions come in limited and open editions of varying qualities. Printmaking also can be limited or open edition. It’s the craft element of how the image is originated that is the point not the size of edition.

I’ve only submitted one listing to Etsy Lush (I don’t think it appeared) and when I noticed that there were as many reproductions as original prints in the Fine Art category I decided not to submit any further. (Especially as my enquiry about the subject was not answered). In the same way I do not put my work in galleries that confuse the two.

Of course Etsy Lush can define things how they like, and not all well agree with me. But this does seem to be counter intuitive to any ‘Lush’ ideals.

I shall keep my eye on the situation and see if it improves – not lost all hope yet....

LynnBaileyPrintmaker, your message was not responded to because you did not ask a question, you simple sent us a statement telling us how irritated you were and how strongly you felt about it.

You are not correct about the categories. The main category we have is Prints, then there are 2 sub-categories, fine art and reproduction.

When etsylush first started, we only had 1 category of 'prints'. This meant that when the sub-category was added of 'reproduction', many reproduction prints remained in 'fine art'. It was simply not feasible to change all of those items to a different category.

We now have a 2 month expiry date which means that all of those listings will now disappear. We are currently going through the site and deleting anything older than 2 months which will further help these categories to be further organized to contain the correct items.

If your items do not appear on etsylush and you feel that it fits the criteria, please check that your image is the correct size and that the file name does not contain any spaces.

LynnBaileyPrintmaker says:

"there were as many reproductions as original prints in the Fine Art category"

There are 52 listings currently in 'Fine Art' and 149 in 'Reproduction. As mentioned above, this will further change as more listings expire.
