Tips for displaying embroidery?

Hi all,

I'm doing my first craft show on Saturday and I am out of my mind anxious, but that's a separate issue...

I sell both crochet and embroidery (framed in hoops). I've got some nice baskets and such for displaying the crochet items, but I'm a little stumped at the best way to show off the embroidery. I'm thinking some sort of board or something on an easel, but I'm not sure what. Foam core or a bulletin board probably wouldn't be strong enough to hold a small nail or pushpin with a hoop, peg board is kind of ugly... Right now I'm leaning towards a painted piece of plywood with tiny nails to hang the hoops on, but I'm not sure.

Does anyone have suggestions? Any good solutions you've found or seen at other craft shows?

Thanks so much!

Re: Tips for displaying embroidery?

I like your plywood idea if you keep it really simple and have them hanging behind your table (rows of four) I would def. bring those cactus' for some quirk & colour in your display as well.
So exciting! make sure to take a picture & report back on how it went!
(Turn that nervous energy into confident positive energy and you will have a great time)

Have you ever seen those foleded picture stands? They come in wood, metal, etc....I'll see if I can find a picture of what I'm talking about, lol.

Wow...I wasn't able to find one...I'm really sorry. I was going to suggest that you display them on the folding photo stands...Sorry :(

Re: Tips for displaying embroidery?

No worries, Katie, I think I know what you mean. That's a good idea for larger pieces, especially. Thanks!

CouerDeLhiver, I think I will go with the plywood idea too. I think I already have some nice neutral paint in the shed, so a quick stop at the hardware store should take care of it.

Unfortunately I'm at my day job right now, so all I can do is think about all the things I should be doing/would rather be doing to prepare. Maybe I can duck out early...

Thanks for the encouragement!

Re: Tips for displaying embroidery?

I think this is what Katie was talking about (?) - http://www.amazon.com/Rosewood-Plate-Display-Easel-Holders~/dp/B003BURBJO. I've seen the cute metal versions for a couple bucks apiece. I think those could work very well!

Another idea (if some of your hoops are small enough, is to use a large picture frame with fabric and batting (instead of a picture). You can put pins in it to display several of your hoops.

If you have walls on your booth, you could use ribbon to hang them at varying heights from the sides. I saw a picture (which I can't find right now) where someone did that and it looked super cute.

Re: Tips for displaying embroidery?

I like the plywood idea too, I recently saw something similar on flickr (the show me your booth group) and it was really pretty actually. They had lots of different colors and they weren't touching each other but they were close so it looked a bit like a pattern. I wish I could find you the picture but I looked through like 1000 over a week lol
