Quick packaging question!

Hi! I was wondering for those who sell (or buy?) art prints at craft fairs, is there usually a cardboard piece included with the print to keep it stiff? Is it cardboard or chipboard? The chipboard I have is pretty flimsy and if I added that I'm pretty sure it wouldn't help the print from bending. But cardboard pieces can get a little expensive. I've been looking at uline.com

Re: Quick packaging question!

why not look for scrap cardboard from places that are throwing out boxes and cutting your own?

Re: Quick packaging question!

The prints I have bought always have white foam core board behind the print or photo. I believe you can buy that at Micheal's by the sheet, 24 x 18? Cut to size and then a plastic sleeve to cover the entire sandwich.

Usually prints have some sort of backer board with them to keep them stiff. When I was in college, I was able to get scraps (some were bigger too!) of mat board from a local frame shop for free. Perhaps this would work for backer board for your prints?

Re: Quick packaging question!

prints have a backing board and a clear plastic slipcover.
Get free cardboard from michael's
they throw out a LOT of large flat boxes
it's an endless supply.
only thing is, it's time consuming to cut yourself!
and you must have the facility to do so

Re: Quick packaging question!

Chipboard is nice but expensive, and I've never found where to get it for free.

You can get cardboard free lots of places though. I have had luck in supermarkets: Aldi has some big sheets they use in their pallets, and Meijer just told me to take any boxes I liked if I see piles of them when they are restocking (Sunday nights usually). I called some mall anchor stores and Sears gave me these nice HUGE sheets from refrigerator boxes.

I also tried hardware stores and furniture stores, but they all seemed to break down boxes and throw them out right away.

Re: Quick packaging question!

great!! thanks everyone! It does seem a bit time consuming to have to cut 100 or so boards... I think that would be the only down side!
