Opinions on using a tree to display ornaments?

Since electricity and space aren't an issue, I have a 6' pre-lit tree that I am thinking of taking and using to display ornaments, but I'm not really sure how touch-friendly ornaments are on a tree. I know that I personally like seeing what ornaments will look like on a tree, and how they will hang, but I would love some other opinions before I settle on this one idea. Especiallly while I still have time to come up with another way to display....

Thanks!

I use table top trees. Just be sure to anchor it so it won't tip. In the wind they tend to blow over.

Re: Opinions on using a tree to display ornaments?

I plan to use a tree as well to display some garlands I make that are prefect for wrapping around a Christmas tree. My tree is very thin compared to a standard tree, and stands 6 feet, so it doesn't take up much space, but still gives the right look. Mine is not prelit, but will be decorated with some glittered balls and grapevine as well, as I don't believe having additional decor will take away from the items I am selling, but rather make it look more like a tree someone would show in their home. I think it would be a great idea to showcase your ornaments, and give your display additional height.

Re: Opinions on using a tree to display ornaments?

I was wondering this as well, I have ornaments that I make and I wanted to get a tree to display them, I used to use a small table top size tree, but the ornaments I've made this year are too big for a small tree and I'm afraid they would look off.

Re: Opinions on using a tree to display ornaments?

I used both a full sized tree and smaller ones to display ornaments. In my former store, I had one of those white metal lighted spiral outdoor "trees" It was about 4 foot tall and you could hook ornaments all along the spiral..I used it for vintage ornaments and I sold tons! (I got it at Freds which would be like the Dollar Store or Walmart/Kmart.) It folded flat when you were done too and set up in about a minute!

I use trees too! It's a good idea for people to see how the ornaments look on a tree. I hang a few of each ornament on the tree and place the rest in baskets around the bottom of the tree or else where through out my display area. I also used a spiral tree too and once it is lit with the ornaments hanging it really attracts!

Re: Opinions on using a tree to display ornaments?

I use one of those outdoor white metal pre-lite trees (price range $30 - $50). This one is not the spiral one...but the metal branch one. They are very bright (with all the white lights on them and an extra string for good measure!) and the ornaments are very secure on the wire branches. I bend the ends up a little bit to make sure that the ornaments do not fall off and to protect little eyes from getting poked.

I found that no matter how well lite your green fake or real tree is....the ornaments get lost in the greenery. They are also very easy to put away! Like an umbrella :O)

Awesome ideas! I already have one of the spiral lighted trees, maybe I will drag it out and see how it looks too. I could technicallly do both, and get rid of one table. I have 7 weeks till show time. LOL...first time in my life I can say that it is not enough by half....

Re: Opinions on using a tree to display ornaments?

I have a small tabletop tree that was once and Easter ornament tree for my daughter. The branches are white and I covered the white weighted base with black(my table display is B&W and hang the crystal(vintage chandelier crystals) with beaded loops from the branches. The loops are large enough for customers to lift the ornaments off..works well for me..good luck.

I use two tabletop trees, one white and one green, and I think it really draws attention to the ornaments. Do weight down any trees you use, table or floor-standing, not just for wind but for 'tuggers' who might accidentally pull it over.

Re: Opinions on using a tree to display ornaments?

I was next to a woman last year who sold ornaments. She had a collection of branches from trees in her yard. They were about 3 ft high. She had them wired around the bottom to create a trunk. Then she wrapped a string of white lights around the trunk, up to the top and she hung her ornaments from the different branches. It was set in a large heavy clear vase. It actually looked great. This was an indoor show.
