How to keep the sidewalls from snapping so loud

Ok my last show was real windy but not constant wind but big gusts. Everytime the gust would come my sidewalls would make a snap as it blew in and another snap as it blew out. Everytime it scared the customer so bad they thought the tent was coming down. Although i explained it had been doing it all day, they would rush out. So how to keep the sidewalls from snapping?

What brand of canopy do you have?

Re: How to keep the sidewalls from snapping so loud

I attach my gridwalls to the metal right under the actual canopy top. The gridwall sets on the ground and I use zipties and bungee cords to keep them upright. I then use either a bungee or a zip tie the side of the gridwall to the gridwall next to it.

I have not had them ever really bang around and I have been in some very intense wind.

Many canopy companies make sidewall skirts for their canopies. If you get just the rails and sew velcro loops on to you regular sidewall you can fasten your sidewalls in the middle to the rail and it keeps them from snapping

Re: How to keep the sidewalls from snapping so loud

I raise up the bottom of my sidewalls on windy days, or roll the walls up completely. This makes the walls less like a sail because the wind can go below the walls.

My sidewalls have velcro tabs at the top, bottom and center. I fold up the bottom of the wall and wrap the bottom velcro tabs around the leg just above the center tab. I roll up the slack in the middle and clamp it with a small clip.

Let me know if that was as clear as mud.

MEvans, do you have those? They look pretty handy.
A friend did a show last week that required dog stakes on the tents - she said they were great.

You make them? What are they made of? Plastic or metal? Do they fold up? Sorry for all the questions but the description really doesn't say. Hate to buy something that wouldn't work for me.

Re: How to keep the sidewalls from snapping so loud

Small strap has a loop on one end and one side of a snap buckle on the other end, long strap has the other end of the snap buckle (in the shape of a V), just wrap the two small straps around the top of the tent legs through the loop, then snap the buckles together. Hope that makes sense. Just wrap and snap then stake at the bottom of the V

Re: How to keep the sidewalls from snapping so loud

I velcro the walls at half mast.
Attach side panels like usual, but then bring the bottom of each wall up from the bottom (roll or fold) and attach the ties (or velcro) at the half way point. It allows for a gentle breeze and keeps the walls from snapping with a gust.

On mine there's one foot variance between the ground and the end of the panel.

Re: How to keep the sidewalls from snapping so loud

I tried clamping the walls at the corners and in real gusty wind i learned how far a clamp will fling when a gust snaps the wall so hard it flings the clamps off the tent leg...luckily it never hit a show patron, unluckily i was standing facing the front corner outside my tent when one flung loose and it hit me quite hard.

That link someone posted, i don't understand the image nor the description of what that item is.

Re: How to keep the sidewalls from snapping so loud

My walls attach to the canopy top with 3 velcro pieces. I loosen the middle velcro and it helps let some of the wind through so the walls aren't acting like sails. I never thought about rolling up the bottom of the wall.
