How to display earrings?

I am curious about earrings? How does everyone package their earrings? And is that related to sales?
We started out with the plastic card thing with the holes in them, then went to just hanging them on earring stands to now wrapping them in the clear cellophane.
The clear cellophane are wrapped in cards, but sales seem to be down with them.
Any opinions?

Re: How to display earrings?

I display my earrings on hang cards that I've made from postcards ordered from Vistaprint. I uploaded a close up photo of a banana leaf for the front of the postcard. I have my business name and my own name printed twice on the front of the postcard and a brief bio printed twice on the back. I cut the postcards in half and fold down 1* from the top to create the hang cards. I use a matchstick blind stretched over a wooden frame to to hang the earring cards on. This makes an eye catching display that is still easily accessible to customers. I think that my customers should be able to see the earrings and hold them up to their ears if they want.

Re: How to display earrings?

We have paper earring cards that are approx the size of a business card, and poke holes with a pin in them, to put the earring wires through. Fabric is wrapped around a ceiling tile and placed in picture frames. Earring cards are pinned to the frame. This type of display holds up well if you are outside on a windy day.

Some crafters build little wooden shelf stands, and then place their earring cards in these, all facing forward. I've seen some made out of corrugated plastic, with long plastic strip shelves too.

A few people buy the plastic hangers that you can stick on the back of any card, then they can use the many commercial earrings stands that are available.

Also see many people using shutter doors to display their earrings. A long paper card is folded in half, and then slipped through the slits of the shutter.

No one at the craft shows I go to wrap their earrings in cellophane. People like to be able to easily see and touch the earrings, and hold the earrings in front of their ears while they look in a mirror.
Having earrings on some kind of a card is much better than having earrings hanging freely on a stand. It makes it easier for people to pick up the earrings for a closer look, without having to try to fiddle and get the earrings out of the stand.

Re: How to display earrings?

I made a wood revolving cube stand, with "L" hooks in rows. I use business card size cards vertically, with a top hole punched, and two tiny holes to hang the earrings. One side of the stand is hinged, so I can store extra stock inside, and I put a carry handle on top. I think people like to see the earrings easily, so I wouldn't cover them with cellophane, or anything. If you would like to see a photo, convo me and I will reply with the photo.

Re: How to display earrings?

What Carol suggested, I've also seen crafters who use sheets of wood (even old doors), and put cup hooks on them. Punch hole in the card, and hang carded earrings or pendants off the hooks.

Re: How to display earrings?

After trying different types of displays, I, too, have decided that putting earrings on cards is the way to go. It is more work, but it has increased earring sales.

I also use business cards that a friend designed for me. The earrings are attached to those and hung on a big picture frame, with ribbon and little clothes pins. Looks pretty cute :) I normally put them in cellophane but I'm foregoing that for my next event.

Re: How to display earrings?

I use a revolving display I bought years ago and the black earring cards. Not terribly original but when the light hits the stand everything sparkles and people are drawn to it...

Re: How to display earrings?

Many of my earrings (in another shop) are long so the short cards really weren't working for me.

I built a stand that looks similar to an outdoor shutter, stained it, and hammered in old-fashioned flat nails at varying intervals.

I made my own "cards" out of paint sample strips (you know, the ones you can pick up for free almost anywhere and are long, skinny, and have 5 or 6 paint colors on each). I use only colors that match or complement my table covers at craft shows. I glue two of them back to back to give the card some substance and cut them down to the length of the earrings plus a bit of room for a sticker containing info about the earrings. I then punch two small holes for the earrings and one larger hole to fit over the nails.

Works well for me and the "cards" are (ahem) free . . . (Actually, I've purchased SO much paint from the local Home Depot and Lowes, they save the discontinued cards for me now.) I've gotten a lot of compliments at shows on my earring display . . .
