We have paper earring cards that are approx the size of a business card, and poke holes with a pin in them, to put the earring wires through. Fabric is wrapped around a ceiling tile and placed in picture frames. Earring cards are pinned to the frame. This type of display holds up well if you are outside on a windy day.
Some crafters build little wooden shelf stands, and then place their earring cards in these, all facing forward. I've seen some made out of corrugated plastic, with long plastic strip shelves too.
A few people buy the plastic hangers that you can stick on the back of any card, then they can use the many commercial earrings stands that are available.
Also see many people using shutter doors to display their earrings. A long paper card is folded in half, and then slipped through the slits of the shutter.
No one at the craft shows I go to wrap their earrings in cellophane. People like to be able to easily see and touch the earrings, and hold the earrings in front of their ears while they look in a mirror.
Having earrings on some kind of a card is much better than having earrings hanging freely on a stand. It makes it easier for people to pick up the earrings for a closer look, without having to try to fiddle and get the earrings out of the stand.
