How should I display my items?

Hi everyone. I'm doing my first craft fair in mid April and if all goes well I'm doing a larger craft fair at the end of June. I have no idea what kind of display I should use for my bracelets. I'm going to have around 6 different types of bracelets available, but probably 100 of each kind made. I was going to bag all of them in small plastic bags and organize them the in trays or buckets by style. Is there a better way? How do you guys(especially jewelry sellers) display your items. Thanks! Hannah.

Re: How should I display my items?

I'd recommend against displaying that way.

Try getting your hands on various bracelet displays: http://www.storesupply.com/c-988-bracelet-displays.aspx

A variety would look best, too many of the same would be boring.

If you want to see some displays in person, Joanne's and Michael's sell them. I'd recommend against buying from them, though, they mark up dramatically.

Re: How should I display my items?

I'd like to add that I have 30 different colors of each bracelet. I just make 6 different types. I'm also selling other items too, I'm just concerned about the bracelets. Thanks!

Re: How should I display my items?

I usually have one of each item out,

I prepackage my extra, and when someone wants one I give them the option of the packaged one, or the one on display. If they choose he one on display, then I just restock.

I thought I heard somewhere that if you have only one of an item, and someone likes it they may feel that if they don't buy it right then, that the seller may be out when they come back later and they may miss out.

I don't know if that it true..

You don't want your space to look empty though.. I am off to check out your shop

Re: How should I display my items?

If you do have enough to fill up your space with other products too, I would display one of each color.

I will put my thinking cap on, but my bracelets are on bracelet displays..
They are velveteen? and is like a tube on a stick..Here is a link.
I got mine 50% off at Joanns

Re: How should I display my items?

I do agree that Joanns and Micheals can be overpriced.
I just can't help myself when they are 50% or 40% off :)

Re: How should I display my items?

I saw a jewelry display that really caught my eye. Branches with lots of smaller branches, set in very stable bases. She then had her necklaces, bracelets, and earrings hanging on them. They caught the light and the breeze and really attracted everyone's attention.

Re: How should I display my items?

Try something a little different from everyone else!
I searched all different displays and then looked at who sells the most at a market/fair and come to the conclusion there is no one formula.
The usual rule however is the same at supermarkets.
1. Eye catching, the item must be at "sight "line people do not look up or down at first.
2. Well presented, do not confuse the person with too much or not enough choice.
3.Visual impact is everything, avoid messy or dirty price tags, you generally cannot Interact with customers to be able to direct them to their choice without appearing "pushy".

Good luck

Re: How should I display my items?

My husband is currently building me some stairstep style displays for my bracelets as they are too heavy to hang on traditional bracelet displays. They will be painted black so my pieces will pop. Having a display that is higher up for customers to view is my goal with these - maybe something like this would work for your bracelets as well.

Re: How should I display my items?

I would take 3 tubes of some kind, maybe pvc piping, cover with neutral fabric, slide the bracelets on (1 of every color, 2 types per pipe = 60 bracelets on each tube) and somehow stagger the tubes, so you can see them all. Or if three tubes is too wide, you could use 6 and have 1 of each color on each tube.

Put your prices on a sign by each type.

I can see it in my head, but sometimes my ideas are hard to get out of my head and into words :(

The tubes would be horizontal. I'm wondering if the knot part would fall to the bottom, though and you wouldn't see them. That might not work.

In addition to the tube idea, I'd put a few out on your table (table raised on risers to countertop level) for people to try on (and hopefully not walk off with). Depending on the crime rate in your neighborhood, you could pin them to your tablecloth. That's what I do.

IMHO, putting them in plastic bags would cheapen them and look like resale. And as I've said in other threads, I have an aversion to jumbles of product in buckets, baskets, bowls, or anywhere!

I like your bracelets. I think you'll sell lots!

Re: How should I display my items?

I have to agree that the plastic bags would be a last resort. I'm thinking about it in my head and I think it would cheapen their look, and also make them look untouchable and less welcoming. When I see tables that are set up like that, and picture the table in my head later I remember more the plastic bags than the stuff inside them.

That flickr link above me is a great resource!

I think the idea of PVC pipe covered in fabric by Liz from LizArti is a great idea too! I don't think the knots would fall down if the PVC pipes were covered in fabric, it should provide enough friction to hold them. Unless of course you're using something like satin lol. You could always go around the fabric store feeling the fabrics... you know, before you choose one. That's what I do! Walk around feeling fabric. lol.

Good luck! :)

Re: How should I display my items?

I know someone who uses those plastic risers for inside your cabinets that you can buy at Target or wherever. She puts her jewelry in boxes, with the lid underneath, and puts the boxes on the risers.

All you see is the boxes and the jewelry, as the risers are totally covered. It looks very professional and minimal and nothing ever gets tangled. Plus it gives people the idea of giving it as a gift- it's already packaged and ready to give!

I like this option better than those velvet displays because the risers nest together and take no space to pack. I used to make jewelry and had one of those velvet bracelet bars with three levels and it was hard to pack for shows and got really flimsy and fell apart after a couple of years (it was like $30 with the shipping, so...)

Re: How should I display my items?

I purchased a few displays from michaels, and I'll restock as necessary. I'm putting my hair ties in big glass jars, and my necklaces are on displays as well as jewelry boxes. Putting them in plastic bags was pretty much my last resort if I couldn't come up with a fancy display.

Thanks everyone.

Re: How should I display my items?

I don't like the tube on a pedestal style bracelet displays. I used one today and found people could not get the the inner bracelets without taking all the other bracelets off and they avoided the display because of this problem. I will not do that again.
