Help with windy days

Hi
I did a st. fair this past weekend and the wind was a nightmare. If I get sides for my tent, would it help? I don't know if it would make my tent more like a kite. I was picking up displays all day and couldn't put everything out because it was blowing away. What do you do?

I hate the wind! A lot of times the sides will blow in and make a bigger mess. I put down the sides about 3/4 on each side so that my stuff isn't getting a direct hit and there is air flow at the bottom to keep the sides from being a sail. It helps... most of the time...

I agree. The sides do sometimes create a greater disaster... It sort of creates a 'sail boat' or 'kite'.

I know there really isn't anything to be done about weather but weigh down your tent but I get frustrated when my light weight items are flying in the street like tumbleweeds....

Sides really won't help against the wind. In fact I've found that they can make the canopy even more like a sail in high winds.

I've found that as long as I've got the weights on the canopy (a minimum of 40lbs on each corner) that the canopy will stand up to 25mph gusts.

When it gets really windy I simply don't put out as much product or I'll switch everything to flat displays.

I bought 3x3 tiles and velcroed them to the bottom of my neck forms. Made table cloth weights for the corners of cloth toppers. Bring bags of colored marble to weight stuff down. And started making wind chimes cause if you can't beat the wind you might as well make the most from it.

weights & wind chimes...got it! LOL! I'm thankful the only outdoor shows I plan to do are in the fall/winter which are usually beautiful weather wise in my home state.

Re: Help with windy days

I made sides for my tent from that outdoor shade cloth they sell in the garden section at Lowes. I've found that this kind of cloth doesn't become a sail like the walls that came with my tent did. It filters the wind just enough to keep things from blowing away. I bought the shade cloth in a pale blue/tan color so it blends in well and used the plastic snap together grommets that Lowes sells in the corners so that I bungi cord the sides to my tent.
