Hat Booth Display Help

Hello wonderful etsy sellers! I'm very much in need of some booth/table advice!

I sell geekery fleece hats on etsy and at anime/game conventions. My display works well enough for those types of cons but I was accepted to an indie craft fair this year and I feel like people expect more than just a metal basket system pieced together.

I haven't really found an awesome way to display my hats. I have a few wig heads that I put my top sellers on but I have a lot of different kinds of hats and I want them to all be displayed. Normally I set up a wire basket system and make boxes and a wall to close pin the hats up on to display them. But it's not always structurally sound and I feel like there has to be a better ascetically pleasing way. I would need to be able to condense the display frame considerably. I have a picture of my sort of usual set up if anyone is interested in what i normally do. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v12/Akiseo/photo_zps59131cb2.jpg

I've read a lot of posts about how people display stuff but I feel my items are uniquely hard to display. Any help would be greatly appreciated since I searched the internet for ideas and haven't arrived at a solution. Thanks!

I don't know much about hats or even indoor fairs, but I think some signage would help. A sign with your store name, but also ones that advertise your prices. Maybe grouping the items either by like styles or colors.

Maybe hat or clothing people can chime in. You have the advantage of lightweight items anyway :)

Re: Hat Booth Display Help

Hats are a big part of my world. Some I display on soup ladles ( dollarama), some on upside down metal paper towel holders ( same place ). If they have something that I can hang them from on top they go onto a wooden twirly thing with cup hooks. I use glass vases instead of wig heads ( hate the things ) for fancy stuff. You can put lights inside the glass and it gives a nice effect.
What kind of space do you have for this show? A booth is a totally different ballgame from a table.

Hopefully there are some ideas in there that you might find useful.

I used to make and sell hats. I purchased a chrome "hat tree" from a display place. They're great, and break down for transporting!

Re: Hat Booth Display Help

We have a couple of hat trees and we also use gridwall with hat hooks - we cover the grid with fabric so it's not as ugly. I got a bunch of those woven wooden salad bowls like your Grandma used to have and velcro them to the hat hooks to give them more body. Then we have some glass heads that we put on the table.
Here's a picture from a couple of years ago, it's not the best but booth shots are always tricky!

Re: Hat Booth Display Help

One thought is to have small photos of your hats being modeled, then you don't have to show as many. That's what I see in the booths where sellers have floppy type hats, thought they don't usually have as many styles as in your booth.

At large shows hat sellers often have their hats hanging on clotheslines in their booth. Also there's a couple of hat sellers I know who take the canopy off their tent frame and hang their hats from the tent using single clip clothing hangers. At some shows, tent frames are not allowed, or do not fit into a booth space if the space is 10x10, and the tent is 10x10.

Do a search on Pinterest. There are lots of photos of all sorts of hat displays. You might find something that you could adapt for your needs.

Re: Hat Booth Display Help

I'm seeing a row of totem poles with attached recycled "salon beauty school" heads at the top of each pole. The Poles could have screwed wooden cross 2 x 4's for the base support.

Our local beauty school throws away the students "heads" after each class rotation.

Often the hair is mangled and chopped, but the faces are in great shape and you'd cover the hair with one of your hats.

Check your local or near by beauty school.
