First showing...crash and burn...

Well, I unveiled my work last night at a local store and there was a lot of buzz, but not great results. I was wondering where you purchased your display pieces for your shows? And how do you display them? If you have baskets for the prints, where did you find them, especially for larger ones like 16x20.

I realized after last night that I need a much better way to display things.

Thank you again,
Cory

Buzz is wonderful! Why do you think that is a crash and burn?

For my larger prints, I use flip racks like the one's listed below from Jerry's Artarama.

I was directed to these http://www.jerrysartarama.com/discount-art-supplies/studio-furniture/print-and-drying-racks/canvas-p...

by Elisa. Honestly, I loved them. People spent a lot of time thumbing through them and they come in different sizes, some plenty big for 16x20. I hope that's at all helpful.

I like to hang mine up so they are easy to see when people walk past and then have more in the bins. Table easles are also helpful. For hanging them I use gridwall and small S hooks. You can find sticky hangers for cello bags on the internet. I got mine on ebay (yeah yeah I know but they are sooo gooood) get the saw toothed ones, the others will hang crooked. You can improvise a wall if you need to about pretty much anything or invest in a display system. It's up to you!

Check out the show us your booth display thread to see some ideas too.

Hey, it was only your first show! There's definitely a learning curve. What kind of feedback were you getting from the shoppers? It may have been several factors that need a little recalibrating.

For displays, I actually hit up local thrift stores. GoodWill especially seems to have baskets in many shapes and sizes.

Re: First showing...crash and burn...

Thank you for all of this. Anyone have a good site for the table top black wire grid displays at a great price?

Re: First showing...crash and burn...

Yep, the Jerry's canvas print racks are the bomb!

Check craigslist daily for wire displays. Search "store fixtures, craft displays, craft show display, art display, etc." They pop up in my area occasionally. Also some times stores will be closing and selling their fixtures and displays. Craigslist is your best bet for finding those items at a reasonable price. If you get a wire display and it is the wrong color, just spray paint it the color you want.

BTW baskets are good in theory but tend to tip over unless heavily weighted on the bottom. Print racks are way better and as a bonus fold flat.

BTW I carry several of those small round rubber things that you put under chairs to protect your floor. I use those under the legs of the floor print racks in case the floor is uneven and the rack wobbles.
