Etsy Card Reader

So I am on the waiting list to receive an etsy card reader. I'm wondering if there has been any word on the status. I've been watching the forums but I haven't found any info on it.

Anybody know anything?

Can't wait to try it out!!

Re: Etsy Card Reader

I'm waiting too. I have a Square reader that I usually use but I thought I would use the Etsy reader for items I have listed in my 2 shops so I don't have to go in and deactivate them later. I haven't heard anything about them lately.

Re: Etsy Card Reader

I got mine a few months ago and I simply love it! Now when I do my shows, I can keep my Etsy shop open while customers shop in person and then use the Etsy checkout for transactions....I also have the paypal reader, but I just use the Etsy one now. It's so much easier. No more vacation mode for my shop when I do shows...

Re: Etsy Card Reader

Yeah. I did a bunch of netstalking this weekend and couldn't find any info on the next round. I have two fairs coming up in April and would love to have the reader by then.

Re: Etsy Card Reader

Also waiting. I've got a square, but haven't been able to figure out how to use it with the Etsy app.

Re: Etsy Card Reader

Can somebody please explain to me how the cost of shipping isn't included in the total transaction if you use the Etsy reader. Do you deduct it somehow before you put the charge through? Thanks!

Re: Etsy Card Reader

I have both a square and etsy reader and have successfully used both readers interchangeably. I discovered by accident by opening the etsy app with the square reader was in.

Re: Etsy Card Reader

Natalie- are you saying you can sell directly from your Etsy shop using the Square reader? Or do you just go in later and deactivate the item?

Re: Etsy Card Reader

Drew, the app knows that you are selling in person so it doesn't apply the shipping costs to the transaction. When the reader is plugged in, you click a 'sell now' button which specifies that you are selling products in person with the card reader.

Re: Etsy Card Reader

The different readers - square, paypal, or etsy all use the same basic technology. If you plug in the square reader and then open the etsy seller app, then it's likely you'll see a message that the reader is recognized. I have used mine interchangeably just fine.

Re: Etsy Card Reader

While I haven't had any luck getting my PayPal swiper to work with the app (it recognizes it but won't swipe), I have still used the Etsy sell app while at a show. I just run the sale through as a cash sale and then swipe using PayPal. It's an extra step but it lets me keep my shop going online while I'm at a show. The site for the reader says "early 2015" so I had hoped to get my swiper by now. You can signup to be notified when they have more.

Re: Etsy Card Reader

you can also put it in manually (without the reader), tho it may cost a couple more cents.

Re: Etsy Card Reader

How does the charge for using the Etsy reader compare with the Square and PayPal Here?

Re: Etsy Card Reader

Nanette, here's a listing of all the fees.

Etsy fees:
There is no Etsy transaction fee for in-person sales, just a credit card processing fee: 2.75% per swipe (or 3% + $0.25 if you manually enter the card number).

Square:
2.75% per swipe. Manually enter card information and pay 3.5% + 15¢ per transaction.

Paypal:
Just 2.7% Per Swipe
Every US card swipe is 2.7%. No hidden costs.
Keyed transactions 3.5% + $0.15: Manually enter a card number or scan a card, at a 3.5% transaction fee plus $0.15.

Re: Etsy Card Reader

Don't we have to pay the $ 0.20 relisting fee if we sell something we have multiples listed?

Re: Etsy Card Reader

I would think so? I just copy and pasted that info I got from here (https://www.etsy.com/reader?ref=ftr). It didn't say anything about a relisting fee. In my use of the reader, i never had to relist anything, so I wouldn't know about the fee.

Re: Etsy Card Reader

We got ours when it first came out and we love it! It's nice that the sales show on your Etsy site and you don't have to worry about de-activating an item you sell at a show when you do it through the app and reader.
