HELP! Dragoncon Virgin Vendor!!

Hi All,
Just found you guys and joined the team (thanks btw)
Okay I did it! I was accepted as a vendor for Dragoncon this year my first time around!! Squeeeee and Holy Sh---!!!! And before you ask, no I've never been able to make it to Dragoncon. I have done Fanboy but that's no where near the scale of this!!

When I got the acceptance email I freeked! Then started making stuff as fast as I could. I have a 10 x 10 corner booth upstairs at Americasmart. I've already shelled out for electricity and internet access and have a square set up for credit cards.

I'll worship in the general direction of ANYONE who might have some advice, any advice. How much change should I bring? How much product do I need to bring? I was thinking of setting up a horseshoe in the booth and I have grid wall to go behind the tables. Since it's a gaming con I was thinking I should highlight the dice bags? Or maybe the card books?
I'm off to make more dice bags now but will check in later. I enlisted my cat to help me but she's lazy and I have to watch her every second or she tries to nap in a box! It's SO hard to find good help nowadays!
Thanks in advance :) Pippen

How did it go?

I've always wanted to go to DragonCon, either as a vendor or an attendee. But it's just a bit too far for me to travel & justify the expense. :-(

Re: HELP! Dragoncon Virgin Vendor!!

Hi!
DragonCon was outstanding!! I almost sold out of everything! If I had brought more I could have sold more!
It was also EXHAUSTING. As in we were so busy from the minute we opened to the minute we closed that we NEVER had a chance to sit down even once or get anything to eat at all! ( Okay I did get to pee...once a day but that's the only time I sat down LOL) It was literally 10 exhausting hours of taking money and running cards for 4 days. AND WORTH EVERY SECOND!
We have already signed up for next year.If there is any way you can do it you should. We spent total cost, including the booth fees, hotel, food, gas, everything almost $4000. But we made over $20000. Well worth it!
As an attendee it would be worth it to in my opinion. For the amount of entertainment, panels, etc that are included well, wow, where else could you get all that. It is a bit expensive but lots of people share rooms and travel arrangements. If you can work it out please do. It was awesome with awesome sauce on top!
Can't wait for next year!

Re: HELP! Dragoncon Virgin Vendor!!

I heard that DragonCon has something like a 2-year waitlist to get a table? A vendor who used to do the con told me that a while ago. Is that true? This one's absolutely on my bucket list, if I can come up with the cash someday (I live nowhere near Atlanta.)

Re: HELP! Dragoncon Virgin Vendor!!

Can't really say about the waiting list. I was accepted the first time I applied but heard others there say they waited 3+ years! The only way I know of to get on the waiting list is to apply in Jan when it opens up. If you don't get accepted then you are put on the waiting list. That's what we were told when we first applied.
Big thing is that you have to give them a credit card for the booth fees right then. If you aren't accepted they don't charge it but if you are accepted they charge it right then. People whose cards don't go through are bumped to the bottom of the list and then next one on the top is run through. That's the big kicker.
Next year they are moving vendors to Building two in America's Mart. It's a MUCH bigger, brighter, space. Not sure how many more spaces they will have over there vs building one but it's worth a shot if you really want in.

There is also Day of The Dead in Atlanta in Feb. They are still taking vendors and their booths run in the 300$ range (more for electricity) We are thinking about doing that one. It's not as big as DragonCon but it's a pretty good size. It's much more Gothic.
If you go on Facebook look for the Offical DragonCon page and like it. Lots of people post looking to share a hotel room to split costs. Also lots of people looking to share rides from all over the country. It might help cut the costs down some for you :)
