I've been trying to figure this out too :-) I think it depends on your subject matter and price range. I'm selling ACEOs (miniature drawings) and I'm trying to reach both men and women who appreciate art but are looking for something affordable (that fits in the middle-class income range) and doesn't take up a lot of display space (it can fit on a small wall or shelf). I envision them to be somewhat curious about the world, since many of my drawings have to do with travel or history. With that said, I haven't been very successful since I've only sold 3 items in almost a year.
I think animal/nature art like what you do can have many possibilities for a market. You could focus on outdoor enthusiasts, the bird-watcher crowd, busy people who would like something relaxing to look at in their office, flower drawings might appeal to women who use them in their home decor...just a few thoughts.
I read some commentary recently that lower end art (in terms of price, not quality!) has taken a hit with the economy (as many things have). The art that is in demand is the high priced investment pieces, which is not the market I am in.
Like I said, I haven't done that well on Etsy, so I hope we can get some comments from the other artists lurking around here :-)
