How was your Valentine's Day?

For me, it was nice and quiet, but I have a headache. Lol

No matter, I watched plenty of Netflix and knit quite a few things! :D

By the way, avoid watching "Life is Beautiful" on Netflix if you're having a great day. It's a fictional story about a Jewish family that gets sent to a concentration camp, but the father avoids his little boy from despair and finding out the truth by making it out to be a big game. "You must hide. If no one finds you, you get a prize! But if you're caught, you lose the game. Don't let anyone see you, you have to win the game!" - This isn't even the tip of the iceberg. Overall, the movie is light-hearted and the majority of it is humorous, but the times where the harsh reality kicks in definitely knocks you back a few steps. It takes great acting and a great story to make the viewer forget about the situation at hand, like how the child forgets about the situation. :)

But, if you're wanting a great historical movie, I would highly suggest it. It's in Italian with subtitles, with non-subtitled German. I believe they only made the Italian subtitled, as they wanted to keep you in the world and fantasy of the family with their child, and not stray into the reality of the Nazi camps. This movie also won three Academy Awards (I found out afterwards) for Best Actor, Best Original Dramatic Score, and Best Foreign Language Film.

Wow, sorry for the rant! I hope you guys had a great day! :D

Re: How was your Valentine's Day?

I am seriously addicted to Netflix and Hulu. But I haven't seen Life is Beautiful on there yet! I've been watching the past seasons of all of my favs lately, like The Walking Dead, The Vampire Diaries, lol. I wish Hulu had the past seasons feature so I could watch all of America's Next Top Model's past seasons, lol!

My Valentine's Day was mostly typical. My fiance and I don't really celebrate V day, so there wasn't any gifts or dates, which is ok because we show the love everyday ;-) but it was a first for my son; he gave his first girlfriend chocolates and a little necklace so that was fun, lol!

I was able to finish "prototyping" the first tote in my hand-painted line, so I'm super excited about that! It's shooting time later today and hopefully, it'll be up in my shop by tonight!

It was a good day ;-)

Re: How was your Valentine's Day?

I spent the day getting the house ready for my wife. I usually do not do much for her on V Day, but always a little something. I thought cooking dinner and setting up a treasure hunt would be easy and leave me time for woodworking. Nope!

She came home from work at 5:30 and found a bowl in front of where she parks. A Ferrero Rocher was in the bowl with a note card that had a riddle poem. It lead her to her favorite gardenia bush, with another chocolate and note. The next clue took her to the firewood pile where another chocolate and note were hidden. The last clue took her to the bird feeder where I had a potted flower waiting for her. Decided against a rose since it will die soon, and this one she can plant in her flower garden.

Then she came inside to find the table set with our wedding china. We have been dieting for over a month, so I made the dish she has been missing the most since then: Shrimp, Broccoli, Alfredo, and Pasta. I also baked a loaf of bread from scratch and bought a bottle of her favorite bubbley - sparkling grape juice(she does not drink alcohol). Afterwards we shared a slice of chocolate cake for dessert.

She told me that every aspect of the treat was exactly how she would have wanted it, so I think I did ok. Apparently my attempt at poetry was only mediocre, but she still will not let me throw away the notecards. At the very least I was able to show her what she means to me, and I think it helped strengthen the bond between us.

I hope all you young, talented and lovely ladies were treated yesterday by someone, be it an all out dinner or a small treat. Every girl needs to be told she is loved, cherished and appreciated frequently, and especially on V Day.

Re: How was your Valentine's Day?

Well, I'm recently single so didn't really have much to do. My ex and I are currently working on getting back together but that's a long story and I'll spare you all the details lol... Being that I had the day to myself I decided to volunteer at a soup kitchen not too far from my house. After spending a few hours serving food and seeing how many people came in for meals, it made me realize how lucky I truly am, and how thankful I should be for all that I currently have. Even with all the struggles I had dealt with in the past and continue to deal with today, things could always be a lot worse. It wasn't even 10 years ago now that I too was in their very position, living on the streets, or in homeless shelters, trying to find ways to get my next meal, etc... It not only made me realize just how far I've come over the years, but also just how many people around me are currently dwelling at their rock bottom hoping for a way to climb back to the top. I've been so busy lately trying to live out my dreams and build myself up in every way possible that seeing this side of life again really hit me hard. Made me realize there is so much more I can be doing, and will be doing, for others who may not be as fortunate as I am to have a roof over their head or the money needed to buy their next meal. It was quite humbling to say the least, and was easily one of the best valentines days I can remember.
