Happy Mardi Gras!

Hello everyone! :D

Today in Louisiana, we celebrate Mardi Gras (literal French translation: Fat Tuesday)! It's a day to have fun and cut loose before Ash Wednesday tomorrow! Well, that's if you're Catholic. If you're Protestant, (like myself) you can sleep off your fun on Wednesday! Lol!

I'm not one for big parties and booze, but I'll definitely be running my own movie marathons and enjoying some crawfish & shrimp fettuccine! Wednesday will be my day to sleep off my food coma. XD

For those who are not interested in Mardi Gras, today is also Pancake Day! :D

Have a great Pancake Mardi Gras Tuesday!

I'm Catholic, so I'll be livin' it up on Tuesday. Not sure yet what I'll give up....maybe sweets? Will be hard, as I love chocolate and pastries.

I always think that it's kind of funny that Catholics have to give up meat for Fridays in Lent but that fish (including lobster and shrimp!) don't count as meat. Not hardly fasting, in my opinion.

@beadstylin - Then today is your day to eat as much chocolate and pastries as you want! :D

Story time behind that Lent tradition! (opens dusty book)

Long ago, there was a Pope who had a brother. This brother was a fisherman, and every Lent season, the brother's business would suffer, and his family would desperately struggle to survive. The Pope knew this was because of Lent, with the Catholics (most of the country at that time) not eating meat. SO, the Pope made an official decree that fish and other shellfish was permissible during the season of Lent. This meant his brother and his family were no longer suffering during Lent, putting the Pope's mind at ease.

(closes story book)

And that's why fish is allowed during Lent, despite it being a meat. :D
