Story time behind that Lent tradition! (opens dusty book)
Long ago, there was a Pope who had a brother. This brother was a fisherman, and every Lent season, the brother's business would suffer, and his family would desperately struggle to survive. The Pope knew this was because of Lent, with the Catholics (most of the country at that time) not eating meat. SO, the Pope made an official decree that fish and other shellfish was permissible during the season of Lent. This meant his brother and his family were no longer suffering during Lent, putting the Pope's mind at ease.

And that's why fish is allowed during Lent, despite it being a meat. :D
