Happy Absinthe Day!

Good morning everyone!

For those who are unfamiliar with the drink, Absinthe is an alcoholic beverage from the U.K. that uses wormwood as an active ingredient. Wormwood is known as a highly potent hallucinogen, meaning, if you drink a good amount of Absinthe, you will begin to hallucinate. Hence, where "the green fairy" derives from in association with Absinthe. Because of this, it is served in bars as a shot rather than a full drink.

Up until recently, Absinthe was banned from the U.S. due to the usage of wormwood. It has recently been allowed back into the U.S., but in very few cities, including New Orleans.

There has, however, been an emergence of U.S. Absinthe, which does not contain wormwood, and can be more commonly found. Despite this, fans of the beverage claim that the U.S. version in comparison to the true nature of the U.K. Absinthe lacks in flavour.

And those are your facts of the day! :D I myself, have never tasted Absinthe, but I am a fan of the smell, as my shop contains Absinthe scented products (which fans of the drink claim smells exactly like the drink) based on the original U.K. Absinthe.

Happy Wednesday everyone!

I had one 80% bottle a couple of years ago that I bought on Mallorca, Spain. I can tell you don't have to drink that much to get drunk... Ah, many good memories :) I also tasted 89.9% absinthe there and yeah it taste alcohol...

Re: Happy Absinthe Day!

Don't you need to drink it through a sugar cube for the full effect and proper flavor?

Re: Happy Absinthe Day!

@Sydney - You need to melt a sugar cube into the absinthe to get the proper flavor. Most people forget about the sugar cube and claim the drink tastes horrible, when it reality, the sugar helps it's flavour by balancing out the wormword. :)
