Finding Peace

Anyone in this team meditate? What do you do to relax and find balance in chaotic situations?

Re: Finding Peace

I know how to meditate, but I've found more peace in doing meditative activities that distract me from the chaos.

I'm an avid gamer. I love video games more than most things. When even my best movies and knitting become too much of a chore, I break out a favourite video game and just let myself go.

The best way for me to relax, is to take a few hours to simply do what you want, and act as if you have nothing to worry about. Sit down without your work in your hand, turn on the TV, and watch something while you do nothing. Pretend as if you're a little kid again on summer break. No chores, no responsibilities, just you and your entertainment. This is a great time to watch new movies to simply get wrapped up to where you have to pay attention.

This is what I had to force myself to do when I was burnt out at the start of this year. It took an entire week, but I was back to working on my business with a fresh start! :D

Re: Finding Peace

I don't meditate, but taking a nice warm bath helps me relax, as well as surfing the web and playing video games!

Re: Finding Peace

There is a good book called "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle if you would like to learn how to meditate among other things.

Re: Finding Peace

I love to watch good movies too, especially funny ones! I am not a great gamer, but my boyfriend is and I love to watch him play Skyrim.

Re: Finding Peace

Skyrim is a beautiful game! And relaxing when you're exploring in the game and not fighting anything like dragons :P

Re: Finding Peace

Doing dishes actually helps me to relax. My mind just does whatever it wants, wanders, etc. Cooking is also very therapeutic for me.

LOL. I believe it though..as I have experienced some wonky things in that game xD One time, when I was in Whiterun (I think?), a dragon attacked and the blacksmith just absolutely WAILED on it..and killed it! It was HILARIOUS.

Re: Finding Peace

I like to think; turn off the tv, the computer, the radio and just consider things. My wife calls this procrastination, but I feel that is just a wife thing. This can be considered a form of meditation, but instead of completely emptying my mind (which is tragically leaky as it is), I start out with a base thought or image and then, gradually moving in steps farther out from it, I add to it perspectives and luggage which might correspond to each step. And then I, finally reaching the limit of my mental capabilities on the subject, do the dishes,

A warm soak in my walk-in tub, filled with lavender oil and chamomile. Almost fall asleep with the jets running. Listening to music - my NEWEST favorite group: Pentatonix (an American a cappella group of five vocalists) top New Tune "Say Something" ! Think I feel a bath in the making : )

Re: Finding Peace

Bonnie that sounds lovely! When I am really angry about something, I gather up all my unfinished projects and finish them. Usually in one sitting. I just work and work until I'm too tired to be stressed or mad. :P

Re: Finding Peace

My newest fav thing to do is go to acupuncture treatments on Friday around 6pm. It's a community setting, so lots of recliners in a big dark warm room with quiet music. I seriously fall into a trance there and it is quite a nice way to end a week of work (I teach high school, so, yeah).

The newest thing I have to lean on in times of stress have been my pets. Though I don't have much time to squish them with love and attention, they are still great company (that I keep FAR from my products). :D

Re: Finding Peace

I don't currently meditate but I have in the past. I haven't been able to get myself to really sit still and do it, but something that is really relaxing for me and has worked in the same way is playing guitar.

I picked it up about a year ago, and really love being able to play and sing. It pretty much makes me feel better no matter what kind of day I've had. To develop dexterity, there's some exercises my guitar teacher has aptly named "Guitar Zen", which is the thing that is kind of meditative for me. Basically, it's using all your fingers to play every string on certain frets in succession. It helps develop speed and accuracy, but I find I really zone out when I do it. It really is like meditating!

Re: Finding Peace

chaos is a mental manifestation, it's created when one is in their negative mode..i suggest forming a positive and clear picture of the things you want to happen in your life. and that's really hard to do for most of us.and thus chaos continues..

Re: Finding Peace

I have generalized anxiety disorder and because of that I've started trying to meditate, and started a little bit of yoga. I still don't feel like I've got the hang of "clearing my mind." There's too much going on in it all the time! I am working at it, though.

I do have other things that help sometimes, though. Painting helps because it's something I love, and typically when I'm painting (for myself, not for a commission) I am so involved with what I'm doing that I don't have to think about much else, so it's kind of meditation because I stop thinking about everything else and just concentrate on one thing.

I also play video games and sometimes certain games can be very therapeutic, as well!

Oh and when I get home from a hard day at work, cuddling with or petting my cat can help me calm down and just feel loved. :3
