I woke up in the middle of the night, my throat felt funny, a bit painful. Getting out of bed to go to work... I started sneezing then my nose started running. I think I've come down with the flu =, ( I haven't had a flu or cold for so long, this just came up from nowhere, such an attack = \
I can feel it all in my head between my eyes and it makes me feeling very tired. All in One medicine tonight and early bedtime then.
I've bought extra triple action Strepsils on my way home from work.
I'm gonna drink orange juice too and lots of water.
What else can I do to help? I don't want to be sick sitting in the office all week.
Get LOTS of rest. Very important!
Are zinc lozenges available in England? Studies have shown that if you take them immediately after the start of a cold, it can shorten its duration.
Rest is the cure for a bad flu I know but that would mean I have to call in sick, I only just started working for them, definitely will give a bad impression if I don't turn up. I'm spreading germs there though.
Zinc lozenges... I will go look tomorrow on my way home.
I'm taking Strepsils Extra Triple Action lozenges, Beechems All in One and Night Nurse capsules. Can only take All in One and Night Nurse once at night time though, they make me drowsy, can't take them during the day. I take the one Stepsils lozenge every 3 hours. They said every 2-3 hours.
I'm so sorry you are sick. There have been some awful bugs going around this year. When I have cold symptoms accompanied by a flu, I use a personal steamer ( it helps me feel better and can help prevent sinus infections), drink ginger tea and I take take zinc and vitamin C. If it gets bad, I've learned to stay home and rest for a day. Nothing helps more than giving the body a complete break to heal. I used to work through it. But recently hen I came down with something similar it turned into pneumonia which put me in the hospital. Yuck! It's been worth taking one day to rest. I hope you feel better very soon.
I felt terrible at work today, at the end of the day when I got home, I felt like I was about to collapse. I took a shower and have no appetite to eat. I can feel it in my eyes, can hardly keep them open. My head hurts too and I just want to go lying down in bed but if I go to bed this early, I'm gonna sleep through the evening and then I will be awake in the middle of the night.
Hope you feel better soon!
Thanks but 2 more days to struggle through, it looks like I will be down this Easter weekend holiday.
Thank goodness it's a short week, I was coughing myself to death at work yesterday. Last night I took Beechams All in One, Night Nurse capsure and cough linctus. Long weekend should allow me to rest.
I hope you feel better soon.
Thanks NancyQ, I meant to take med all day today but I just didn't feel like sleeping the day away so I didn't. I only took the cough linctus twice when I had the coughing fits.
Hope you are feeling better with the long weekend, @Artbesico , and I'm sorry to hear that you weren't feeling well all week. It's definitely true that there seems to be a lot of particularly nasty bugs going around this season. My sister was just down with pneumonia, my mother with bronchitis, and my other sister with a flu. I had the flu as well.
Maybe it's a good sign that you didn't want to rest up today? Maybe an indicator that whatever this particular flu is, it's starting to really clear up? I hope so. (:
@philosophiacreations Thanks I'm hoping the long weekend can allow me time to rest up and recover. Been sick whole last week, from Sunday night, going to work with the bad cold day was quite exhausting but at least it was a short week and a short week too next week. I should really be on med every 4 hours yesterday but med would've knocked me out and I would be sleeping whole day. I did collapse to bed late afternoon though and slept for an hour. My coughing fits started from Thursday, was still bad yesterday. Haven't had one yet today, hopefully it's dying down.
Good to hear that you have recovered from the flu now and I hope your mum and sisters get better soon too.
I watched telly in bed last night so least I was lying down. I watched Dr Strange, I love all Avengers movies =]
Hope you feel better soon, art, especially as it's the Easter weekend. Gotta enjoy some chocolate eggs at least!
Thanks Breeze, no Easter egg no chocolate no nothing for this Easter long weekend for me, I'm coughing myself to death still, just went out to Asda to buy cough linctus, supermarkets are closed today =, {
Such lovely weather, sunny everyday and I can't go anywhere, not fair.
9 days counting I'm still not well, still full of germs, coughing myself to death especially when I eat. I know I'm getting better, better than last week but why is it taking so long = ( I thought 4 days off work for the Easter long weekend would've helped me recover but not a lot = | Back to work today, one down, 3 more days to go...
I've been sick 10 days now and no one in the office ever asked how I am doing. I've been having these coughing fits past 2 days, choking and coughing myself to death. This morning while I was having another coughing fit, almost choking and dying... someone came up to me and said . . . can you cover your mouth when you cough, there is a lot of us here. OMG, that was like telling me to go to the corner and die quietly. She didn't even bother to start with a "Are you ok?" when I was obviously coughing uncontrollably and almost collapsing to the floor. How very mean = \
I'm so sorry to hear you are still ill. There has been some nasty viruses going around. I can relate as I was down for over a week with one this year. It did require rest. I hope you are getting some. That's very rude for your coworker to say. I'm so sorry that happened. When I managed offices, I sent employees home that were ill so they could recover. I found they got better faster, less people got ill and most importantly it made for a happy office when we supported each other. It saddens me to hear others acting this way. I really hope you feel like yourself again tomorrow. :(
Thanks NancyQ, I was actually feeling worse at the end of the day when I came home, I felt like I was about to collapse. I was hoping that I could get a lot better after the long weekend, I got better but getting back to bad now after 2 days at work. I find myself annoying too with the coughing fits so I don't blame the others but you would have thought people can be more sympathetic = ( What she said was like kicking me down when I was already down, not nice.
Can't fight it anymore, a round of coughing fit woke me up in the middle of last night, I'm tired of the coughing. Went to the doctor this morning, had to queue outside for half an hour before they opened to get an appointment for the day. I was 2nd in the queue this time so I got an ealy appointment, still had another half an hour to wait but this time I stayed put, waited there. Last time I got a later appointment time when I was the 5th in the queue, had to go home then went back later.
How awful, art!!
I know you are new at your new workplace, but I think it's time to take time off work so that you get some proper rest and time to make a real recovery. It's never comfortable to be needing time off when you're new at a new job - I remember that feeling, but since it's obvious even to the people at your office that you're very ill with this, I think you should request time off. It's not your fault you caught a nasty case of the flu and it's bad timing, but they ought to be understanding.
If you keep having to work it will delay your body's ability to fight off the illness and get better. More productive in the long run to take time off and fully rest and recover. :)
@BreezeOnTheLake Understanding... is not something I can expect from this lot I've come to realise. They called me while I was literally with the doctor, then left me a text message. I waited half an hour outside the doctor's before I could get in to book an appointment then waited another half hour to get to see the doctor. I then went to the pharmacy to get medication, I'm now sitting here shivering. I'm wearing a winter puffa jacket and I'm still shivering, feeling cold from inside.
That's awful, art!!
What a rotten lot they are at that place! First they complain when you are there and sick, then they complain when you keep yourself away and go to see your doctor. I'm so sorry you are having to deal with this. Try to do all the practical things you can to make yourself more comfortable and to take care of your health while you fight off this bug. Hugs ((()))
I read somewhere that someone said they don't like that you sneeze and cough in the office but when you are off sick at home, they don't like that either. So you can't win, they don't like it, period. Who wants to be unwell? I'm tired of being sick too, I'm tired of the coughing, tired of tickling swollen throat, tired of the tight airway and heavy chest. I'm still on antibotics, my chest and stomach still hurt. I've probably got all the side effects, body aches and feeling fatigue.
I was off only 2 days, still yet to finish the course of antibotics but I'm back to work today already. When I went in this morning, I was being told that there would be a back-to-work meeting? O_O What? Never heard of that and also I've only been off 2 days, I have all the bad flu symtoms, can they not see me suffering enough?
Oh my god, a "back to work meeting"?? They have to hold a meeting about your coming back to work after just two sick days? Holy crap. I could understand if you'd been off for a month getting cancer treatment....but away for a couple of days with flu they already saw you genuinely had? What could possibly need such careful catch-up in the work tasks there, that they see fit to hold a "meeting" for your grand return?!
Also, it is supposed to be the general wisdom in a workplace these days, that if you are sick with something others can catch, everybody is usually agreed that it's best to NOT go to work and spread it around. The days of "come in anyway" are supposed to be gone in favor of keeping it at home until you're a productive and non-contagious worker again. I think they're being very old fashioned in their disapproval of you taking sick time.
Oh god, remind me never to get a job in an actual workplace again, I think I'd rather live under a bridge than deal with this petty BS. Ugh. I feel for you.
How are you feeling now, Art? Hope you are improving.
