Hi good people of Etsy! As we're all a big community, I want to ask for your help.
I'll keep this short...a good friend that I met while doing research in Guatemala is now living with me in Philly. She had to flea her country due to serious threats to her life.
She's a very skilled artisan but does not have any tools or materials here. I'm trying to find plans for a central american warping board (urdidor), and either purchase or buy the shuttle and other tools she needs.
Any suggestions? Does anyone have some yard/thread they could donate? I'm also considering teaching her how to macrame and maybe make plant hangers. Any other ideas?
We're desperate. She has no English and finding work is hard for her because of that. Plus, I'd rather see her using her amazing skills and learning Etsy than washing dishes (not to knock dishwashers - I was one for many years myself!).
You should also know that she left behind a special-needs daughter with her parents who are both old and in severe poverty. I have a private FB page to tell her story and raise $ for her daughter while she gets on her feet. Contact me if you'd like to be invited.
