Comparison of die cutting machines

Hi everyone, I have been making cards for a few years and I finally want to purchase a die cutting machine but I can't decide which one I to get as I don't know enough about them. Is there one that you prefer using? Do you know the differences between the Cricut, Silhouette, Cuttlebug, Sizzix, Spellbinder, etc?

Thank you very much for your help!

Re: Comparison of die cutting machines

I use both the Cricut and Cuttlebug and really like them both. I do have to watch the quality of the cardstock that I use with my Cricut. Lately, I have noticed that the cardstock that I purchased from Hobby Lobby does not cut with clean edges. I do go through my Cricut pads fairly quickly. I only really use my Cuttlebug for embossing.

Re: Comparison of die cutting machines

Good morning,

I too have both the Cricut and Cuttlebug. Check out the other large machines such as the Cricut. There is a software program called Sure Cuts a Lot by Crafters Edge. http://www.surecutsalot.com/index.php

The program allows you to use any True Type font and clip art to design what your imagination desires and you are not held hostage to ones made by Provo craft.

The cuttlebug or similar machine by Sizzix or another company is manual and fairly limited to folders and dies pre-made. I use mine all the time to emboss and die cut. You can use any folder or die. I have cuttlebug, Sizzix and Spellbinder folders and dies I use. You may have to add to your plates for the correct pressure.

Also, Paper Dreams.....have you tried washing your Cricut mats with soap and water? Also to bring the tackiness back get some spray glue, lightly spray them and let them set for awhile.

Have fun ..... Enjoy
