Does anyone know if larger cards sell better? I've generally kept my cards 3.5x5ish as that seems to be what sells best at the bazaars I've been in, but the more I look around Etsy the more I think things might be different here. :) Would it be worthwhile to do a run of a larger size?
My greeting cards typically run 5.5 x 8.5 (on the larger side) but customers are always happy with them and never find them to be over sized. I do this to get a larger print of my artwork on the front.
The standard size in the stores is a 5x7 but that doesn't mean you have to have that size. Card stock quality is more important than size in my eyes.
Mine are usually 4 x 5.5 inches. I used to do some larger, but it helps me to keep everything consistent. Among other things, I only need one size of cello sleeve.
I'm with Julia B - I only sell one size (A6, 4.5x6.38 inches). The consistency has helped with my packaging, and the envelopes go with everything. I don't think the size of the card will drive sales up or down much.
Different things work for different people. You could always just experiment with different sizes. I sell 5.5 by 8.5 ..but thinking of adding square cards and mini one. Sometimes its fun to have different options! See what works! :)
Thanks everyone for sharing their advice. I've been selling mine 4.5x6.38" this way they will fit nicely in a A6 envelope. I tried 5x7, but felt like they were a bit to large.
I agree with WaterColorGreetings about the importance of the stock quality and not the card size. The nice thing about cards that are 5.5 x 8.5 folded down to 5.5 x 4.25 is that you get 2 cards out of an 8.5 x 11 sheet and only need 1 cut.
You can purchase most papers directly from the mills in 8.5 x 11 sheets. I use this size so I can indulge in nicer paper and avoid any waste. Plus it fits perfectly in the A2 size envelope which is available almost everywhere.
