Please I need Shipping Help!!!!

I have just joined Etsy a few days ago, and I am having so much trouble estimating shipping costs..... When I go to Canadapost.ca and"get a rate", I don't know if I'm doing something wrong but I either get around $20 for shipping, or around $11 to Australia!!! And that is for no matter what I do, xpresspost prepaid padded, or parcel... Please Help.... Thank you :)

Re: Please I need Shipping Help!!!!

Hi Candace,

I don't sell jewelry, so those smaller packages are a bit out of my 'knowledge zone', but as far as I know if you can keep your packages under 2 cm (or 20 mm), then the prices will be more reasonable.

Most people use Light Packet or Small Packet for sending jewelry items outside of Canada - and within Canada they use Oversize Lettermail.
Both oversize letter and light packet have to be under that 2 cm limit, I believe. But Small Packet doesn't have to be.

Lettermail weight/measurement info (make sure you look at the 'Oversize' information in Table 1)
https://www.canadapost.ca/tools/pg/manual/PGletterml-e.asp

Light Packet and Small Packet weight and measurement Info for US (section 3.1) and International (section 3.2):
https://www.canadapost.ca/tools/pg/manual/PGpsus_int-e.asp#1393860

$11.00 to Australia sounds about right for a Small Packet Air rate. But you can also use the Light Packet method if you get your package under 2 cm.
Not sure where you were sending to for the $20.00 price you mentioned, so can't say anything about that......but if it was within Canada - that sounds like the Xpresspost Prepaid rate. Regular Parcel would be about $15.00

That is the biggest reason to get your packaging down under the 2 cm limit - then you can ship within Canada using the oversize lettermail rates.
For an envelope with the right sized (under 2 cm) jewelry box, weighting between 200 and 300 g, it would be $4.31.

Cut your jewelry boxes down to under 2 cm or buy boxes already made that size, it will save tons on shipping.

I hope that helps! Or that some who actually ships using these methods pops in to say more. :)

And that team discussion that Periwinkle posted is excellent!!

Re: Please I need Shipping Help!!!!

Hi Candace,
I also had that issue. Holly, above explained well. C.Post have a print out of national rate for Canada, USA and Int.
For more info visit Etsy International team, there are a lot of discussion about it, from Jacquie of http://etsy.com/shop/jacquievintage (she works for C.Post).
Hope this helps a little.

Thank you so much everyone for your help!!! :) I think I have got it figured out... it just confused me how it could be more expensive to ship within canada than to australia :) But then again it is more expensive to fly within canada than to outside too :)

Re: Please I need Shipping Help!!!!

Glad you got it all figured out Candace, that's great!

I run into the high prices for shipping within Canada all the time, unfortunately.
None of my items will fit through the 2 cm slot of doom, so everything has to go parcel rate. :(
