Our dollar?

As our dollar slides do you readjust your pricing at all on your listings? I have a few times slightly, but just wandering what other sellers do? As I list in American it is good for us to export but just wandering what others do?
Unfortunately I have slowed down on buying supplies from the U.S. & trying to find more Canadian suppliers.
Any thoughts?

Re: Our dollar?

I have not altered my pricing through any of the decreases of our dollar value, nor through the increases.

It will be interesting to see what others have to say though!

Re: Our dollar?

Since all my suppliers & majority of customers are US based. I will not be adjusting for the current value of the dollar. Just as I don't adjust when our dollar gains value.

Re: Our dollar?

All depends on where your costs and revenues are. For us, our costs are all in Canadian dollars. We are happy to get canadian dollar revenues. If the dollar weakens our US clients get our products cheaper and will order more!
Now if I ran a business, where I had to buy products or supplies in USD, i'd want to sell in USD or if I was selling in CDN I'd want to increase the selling prices to keep my margins overall.
I'm not greedy, so my prices just look cheaper now to american buyers!

Re: Our dollar?

I have always listed in US. Dollars and wondering what you all do, US or Canadian? I always listed in US on Ebay and have stuck with it here. Is there any benefit to listing in a certain currency? Thanks for your responses.

Re: Our dollar?

This is an interesting discussion. I have been considering changing to USD for some time now. I'm looking forward to reading more comments.

Re: Our dollar?

The only reason I have been considering changing is because I would like to take part in the wholesale part of Etsy. and after having my application "reviewed" for years I was told that I needed to have my shop in American dollars. I haven't figured out how to do this and keep the pricing for my online shop the same as I would have it at shows and to my Canadian wholesale customers, especially now with the fluctuating dollar.

Re: Our dollar?

I'm trying to list in USD but can't seem to figure it out. It keeps showing in CAD. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Re: Our dollar?

Fatema:

For your shop currency:
Go to Your Shop > Shop Settings > Accepted Payments. Then, click the Currency tab.

2) Select your preferred currency.

3) Choose whether you would like the converted price on your current listings to be rounded to the nearest whole number.

4) Click Change Shop Currency.

If you have many items currently listed in a different currency, the conversion process could take up to an hour.

Once you choose a preferred shop currency, each new listing you create will be priced in that currency.
-----------------

But, if your settings under your profile are set to Canadian Dollar, then you will continue to see everything that way, including your own shop. (I think).

If you want to change your settings for what you see everywhere on the site, then go here:
https://www.etsy.com/your/account/preferences
Scroll down and select your preferred currency in the Currency section.

Hope that helps!

Re: Our dollar?

Thanks so much Holly! I made the switch. I buy my supplies mostly from the U.S and on Etsy so the Canadian dollar drop was killing me.

Re: Our dollar?

We switched to USD and didn't notice enough of a difference in sales to switch back. We have a few Etsy stores and pricing is such a subtle but important part of the marketing equation.

I think if most of your customers are in the US it makes sense to switch, but if you rely on Canadian and European customers that maybe not such a good idea.

Re: Our dollar?

I don't adjust my U.S. pricing. I figure it works out pretty even, because I purchase my fabric from the U.S. so I get nicked there! I do often give refunds if the shipping ends up out of line, however.

Re: Our dollar?

My material, shipping etc are evaluated in Canadian $, my shop is in Canadian $. American who buy from me will have the rate of the day (from Etsy or Paypal).

Re: Our dollar?

I don't adjust the listing price with a hope that it will encourage more buyers. I don't know if i will be saying the same thing if it drops further and further .

Re: Our dollar?

I always list in US dollars since it is sort of "international" currency.

80% of my customers have always been US customers

Re: Our dollar?

I also list in US dollars. Most of my customers are from the US or elsewhere. Recently I had a couple of Canadian customers (they were even from my home province of B.C.!) and they asked if I could give them a discount due to the high exchange rate. I did discounts for them just because and now one of them has bought two more items from me!

Love Etsy Canada!

Re: Our dollar?

I Don't adjust my pricing as that is not fair to Canadian buyers.

I am a bit disappointed too that despite the change in the dollar my etsy sales continue to plummet.
We have been going strong since 2011 and now we have hit a major slump since Feb. we are just not being found and not making sales.
We are less than 1/3 of our last years revenue... wish I knew what was going on?
