Canada Post Shipping Rates.

Increase to shipping rates are paining me.
I shipped a bottle openers (which I already charge more shipping $ than the item costs) and shipping to a location in AB was just shy of $16 WHAT!!!!! I really wish that Etsy would have calculated shipping for Canada.
and now they are increasing again!
Which I don't understand as fuel costs have lowered significantly.

Canada Post in general is struggling for awhile because the volume of mail has decreased so much since so much stuff like banking is done online. That's why they were going to phase out door delivery. I think cost increases were part of the package in no longer doing that.

Still...very frustrating for us. It makes it hard to stay competitive. I've just started selling, so I came in while the prices are high. For my items that aren't letter-sized, I'm trying to incorporate some of my shipping costs into the initial price so they don't appear to look insanely high.

Canada Post's rates have caused us to lose business. When the shipping is the same price or more than a $40 item, people cancel the order.

I don't use Etsy for my Canada Post shipping - I use Canada Post's "Solutions for Small Business" which keeps the discounts in my pocket and builds a history with a crucial supplier (without relying on Etsy to decide what discount to pass on).

CP has 4 levels of discounts and they apply to International and Domestic shipments. The more you ship the greater the discount level.
I get better discounts from Canada Post than I do from Etsy now. It's a bit more work (you have to log in to CP and do shipments online there) but totally worth it.

Yo need to start at level one apparently but they'll check and upgrade (or downgrade) every quarter. Little pain for some gain depending on your volume.

Tif and Steve I feel your pain shipping rocks from the North :) Worse than shipping Books from the West!
