Recent Bug Fixes, Your Feedback, and What’s Next

Hi folks,

Thank you very much for your continued participation in the team. I wanted to let you all know that we just fixed two issues that were recently reported.

First, there were a few cases where items that should have fit in a smaller package size were calculated for something larger. This was a result of the way we were handling multiple-item orders and how those items were configured to fit into a particular box. We have since improved the way this works to support these cases.

Second, there was an issue where orders worth $400 or more were having First Class International rates calculated for them despite it not being eligible to ship orders of that value.

We apologize for any inconvenience either of these issues might have caused and are happy to report that both are now resolved.

We appreciate all of the bug reports, feedback, and suggestions you’ve shared in the team. We’ve noted everything that’s been discussed and will keep it in mind when we make improvements to the feature in the future. Some of the more common things that have been requested include, but are not limited to:

- A “ships alone” option

- Item weight and dimensions connected to listing variations

- Separate handling fees for domestic and international shipments

Lastly, being that calculated shipping is now live for all US sellers, we will not be monitoring the activity in this team as closely as we once were. If you have any questions or feel that something is not working the way it should, we ask that you now direct your questions and comments to Etsy Support and you will be connected with one of our shipping specialists.

Please feel free to continue to use the team to offer feedback and advice to each other. This has been a great resource for sellers who are new to calculated shipping and we hope that it will continue to be a place where sellers can go for advice.

Thank you all, again, for your participation in this team. Your feedback and fastidiousness were truly integral to our building out calculated shipping. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Cheers,
Mike

We are very happy to see that "ships alone" and separate handling charges are now on the radar. Thanks Mike and all!

Re: Recent Bug Fixes, Your Feedback, and What’s Next

I copied this from another discussion about my experience with calculated shipping. Just few days ago I got new experience with calculated shipping. I saved boxes what I would use for my orders and I believe it was very bad idea. I sold 4 placemats what is about 10-12oz total with the box. It perfectly fits in one box. You know what Etsy did? It was divided in 2 packages and customer charged for each box as separate order. It means customer was charged 2 times for weight, for packaging and handling fee. That was big mistake Etsy!

Re: Recent Bug Fixes, Your Feedback, and What’s Next

Ausra - what dimensions do you have on your placemats and what dimensions are the box you put in Package Preferences? Also what weight do you have on your placemat listings? We can help you here.

If it put your items in two orders, it is probably because they didn't fit in one box. Not because they don't actually fit, but because some of your figures don't fit it in. This can be corrected for next time.

Let me know the specifics. I can probably help you figure this out.

Re: Recent Bug Fixes, Your Feedback, and What’s Next

In lieu of the upcoming postage rate increases, I chose to revisit CS.

I was glad to see that the flat rate padded envelope heights are now variable.

However, since 2 of my lines involve listing variations that need separate weight and/or size calculations, CS will be put on the back burner once again.
Happy to hear that you are considering the fact that listing variations do need separate calculations. I will check back again soon!

Keep up the good work!

Glad to hear this Mike! I'm also waiting for the "ships alone" option, and I know several others are hoping we'll get that also.
Thanks!

Re: Recent Bug Fixes, Your Feedback, and What’s Next

I would like to add my "two cents worth" and support Duane, Dave and Matt who have been requesting different handling fees for international and domestic shipping. I used to do international shipping, and I always double boxed the international orders. I now only ship to the US, but have been contemplating at least adding Canada back on again. So, yes, I can see where different handling fees would be extremely helpful, especially when the seller has to ship glassware.

I would also use the "ships alone" option, and I think many vintage sellers would, but I am doing okay without it, as most of my orders are single orders.

I have been using CS since the first week of March, and am still happy with it...........thank you ♥

Re: Recent Bug Fixes, Your Feedback, and What’s Next

I just wanted to add a little feedback. I got an order tonight for six jar candles. CS worked so perfectly I could kiss it! It calculated the right weight (9 pounds) and the right box (I didn't have to go searching or add things up and decide which was cheaper, large flat rate or 12x12x8 for regular Priority, which it was) It also charged my customer to their zip code $14 + instead of almost $40 that it would have charged with the old set up.

Would the customer have bought that many jars had they seen the shipping going up to 40 dollars? I'll never know, but I seriously doubt it.

It is so worth the work of setting it up and getting it right. The end result is awesome when it works like this!

Re: Recent Bug Fixes, Your Feedback, and What’s Next

So why would CS put a package that measures 3.5" x 3.5" x 1" into a 5 x 3 envelope. Doesn't it know 3.5" is larger than 3"?
