Calculated shipping does not play well with others?

I had a customer by 4 items.
1 item had calculated shipping, the other 3 did not - as they were variations that I hadn't done the math on yet.
The customers order seems to have disregarded the non-calculated shipping?
The customer thinks they bought 1st class shipping (the items will weigh about 1.5 lbs) and of course, I'll ship it priority and eat the cost on this one - but is it supposed to work like this? You either change everything to calculated or don't use it?

:-( This also seems to be the first order that is significantly off.
Let me know what info you need and if I'm not understanding.

Alexis - what happens when calculated and non-calculated items get combined is that first it takes the calculated shipping and then adds to it the secondary (ships with another item) price to add to it.

Re: Calculated shipping does not play well with others?

Here is the exact explanation from Mike:

+ How are orders calculated that have items where the shipping costs have been both calculated and set by me? +

If a buyer is checking out with items for which the shipping rates have been both calculated and set by you, the shipping prices for both items will be combined and will appear as one shipping cost below the order total at checkout.

The primary shipping cost will be pulled from the item with calculated shipping in the order. Items for which you have set the shipping costs will have their “With another item” cost applied. At this time, Shipping Upgrades for the original version of shipping profiles are not supported in carts with mixed profile types and will not be implemented in these cases.

Re: Calculated shipping does not play well with others?

Ditto on what Wood says above. Yes, it will work well together, for I use non-calculated or flat rate for my books, and calculated shipping on the other items. If it is set up right, both methods will work together on one order. It just takes a bit of time and patience to learn this, and it can be overwhelming, but hang in there, it is worth it :)

Ginger - I don't personally use both methods in my shop - I have everything with CS now, however, since you do this - perhaps you have some tips on how best to use both methods. That might be helpful to others.

Re: Calculated shipping does not play well with others?

I set my non-calculated "with another item" price to the same as the "alone" price. My non-calculated items are flat rate bubble mailers, though, so sometimes it causes an overage and I refund.

Re: Calculated shipping does not play well with others?

I see - that makes sense. I was more confused where the other amounts for shipping were coming from. I think I'll luck out with this one, and it will be covered and I won't be out anything - still - we were only talking $2.

Thanks much.
