Just received a convo from a customer saying that the calculated shipping was way off.
It is way off, but not on my end.
Checked the shipping profile, and it is all correct.
Calculated postage for this item to New York is USPS Priority Mail $9.97
Etsy calculated postage is showing $56.60

Have no idea how long it has been doing this, but I know it wasn't doing it when calculated postage was turned on in my shop.

Help please!

Re: Calculated shipping bug- not calculating correctly

Hi Marieke and Ma and Pa,

We recently introduced some new features for calculated shipping, which you can read more about here:

https://www.etsy.com/teams/23557/calculated-shipping-prototype/discuss/16188604/?ref=team_page

As Kathy mentioned, there's now a way to enable or diasble using Etsy common box sizes.

In order to diasble using Etsy common box sizes, you have to add in other Package Preferences first. You can enter box sizes that you frequently ship with or select Flat Rate options. Here's an FAQ on how to do so:

https://www.etsy.com/help/article/6167

Thanks,
Calia

Re: Calculated shipping bug- not calculating correctly

well, gee, Kathy I didn't know that......or maybe I did know that and I forgot.....who knows? ha, ha, ha, ha......

you said.....

*****If you only want 1 item to go into a particular box, just continue to put in your box size for dimensions and make sure to have that box size in your Preferences and the Use Common Etsy Sizes box unchecked.*****

I was still thinking box dimensions would throw the calculator into oversize boxes......but this will work when you only want one item in the box.

Oh, woe is me...........this is more than I can stand!!!

LOL.

Re: Calculated shipping bug- not calculating correctly

Ginger I would test that out first lol. But if you turn off the Etsy Common Box Sizes and just add your own sizes to Preferences you can at least avoid that oversized box problem.

And like Calia said - you have to add Preferences first before you can turn off the Etsy boxes.

Re: Calculated shipping bug- not calculating correctly

yes, I understand that, Kathy. and yes, I will test it first.

so I do understand that now, do you think I will understand that tomorrow, or do you think I may forget that I understand that..........do you understand what I am saying? LOL, I will leave you alone in peace now to contemplate all of that.....ha, ha, ha!

Re: Calculated shipping bug- not calculating correctly

hahahaha you are too funny Ginger.

I'm just thinking that if you want to ship something alone and you have a 12x12x8 box in your Preferences and you put those dimensions in your listing it would have to put it alone.

On my listings, once the calculator fits as many items into my flat rate boxes as it can, it starts another box.

Hope it helps!

Re: Calculated shipping bug- not calculating correctly

Whew, I am getting there but it is a chore! I unchecked etsy shipping boxes and then my prices were way off. I went to a new browser to be a customer and tried one zip of two items to NY ( am on west coast) and one to international Finland address. With the etsy size boxes (or as a item per box) I get correct pricing but unchecking that box I get way too much shipping being charged.
I am not sure If I am really getting this and being a huge dyslexic with prob. with numbers it is a challenge. However I will get it all down with time.
Right now the etsy size boxes is what I am working with. Might be best anyway as each item of my hand sculpted items should be in a box within a box. They can break easily if not.

Re: Calculated shipping bug- not calculating correctly

Brenda - if you unchecked that box - what boxes did you enter in your Preferences? If you uncheck that box, then you should have all the boxes you use listed in your Preferences.

Re: Calculated shipping bug- not calculating correctly

Brenda, if the dimensions you entered for your items does not fit in the flat rate boxes you entered perhaps that is the problem. I know it's a lot of math figuring out what will fit where.

If the Etsy box sizes are working for you perhaps you should keep them. I haven't seen the team leaders around today much to answer questions like this.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Re: Calculated shipping bug- not calculating correctly

You helped a lot Kathy! After three days of pondering and tweaking for a few hours each day I have it worked out mostly. I am slow but determined hahahah
and I love this new system! It is so much better for customers and sellers once we stick to it!! ;-) as with all things one just has to give it time and learn a little more each day...

Re: Calculated shipping bug- not calculating correctly

Brenda it does take some work, well a lot of work, and you doing a bit each day is great idea. Unfortunately a lot people expect to flip a switch and poof they have calculated shipping.

We all learn something new each day and make tweaks and eventually you are rewarded with a system that not only works for you, but more importantly, for your customers.

Glad you are plugging away!

Re: Calculated shipping bug- not calculating correctly

I have just tried to use this new shipping tool in my shop. I set up a preferred box size for a large shipment…a typewriter…very heavy, needs double boxing, and a lot of packing to keep it safe. A convo from an interested buyer states interest in the item, but wants to upgrade from Fed Ex Ground. He has not sent me back his zip code, so I am a bit nervous now about this new tool. I've been stung before on shipping. Reason being: I am listing new items today, and tried to use the tool on my newest item, some danish dessert cups. My calculations the old figures the best shipment method to be a medium flat rate at $11.30…The shipping profile popped up $5.88 to the east coast from here in the west. Hmmmm…I unchecked the box and calculated myself. I love the idea of this new way for the customer to choose methods, but man, If I have to pay pay pay for mistakes…YIKES

Re: Calculated shipping bug- not calculating correctly

Cheryl, for the dessert cups, are you putting in the dimensions for all of them wrapped up? Not just the size of one?

Of course the calculator only supports USPS and not Fed Ex so I don't understand your first question about the typewriter.

Re: Calculated shipping bug- not calculating correctly

We just sold an item using Calculated Shipping for the first time this morning. We saw that it charged the customer $35.00, but the shipping charge is less than $12.00.
1st off, we feel bad.
2nd, this seems like a bug...I wonder how many sales have walked away after seeing the shipping charge.

Re: Calculated shipping bug- not calculating correctly

Hi Rebeka,

I responded to you in another thread, but wanted to make sure you saw my post here as well.

Do you mind sharing what order you're referring to? The only recent order I'm seeing of yours with a $35 shipping cost does not use calculated shipping -- it uses a shipping cost set on the listing.

Thanks,
Calia
